Human Resource Management (HRM) is the present-day approach of managing people at the workplace and it focuses on acquisition, development, utilization and maintenance of human resource. It is the responsibility of managers to provide space for employee involvement, performance and growth. HRM is globally a fast-growing field offering promising and well-paying careers to individuals.

I was a bright student at school and my academic performance had been good. However, due to a family emergency during the exams, I managed to score only 6.4 CGPA in my 10th standard finals. I was disappointed but I didn't lose hope and worked hard enough to score 83.24% in the commerce stream of 12th standard from the CBSE board. The main reason that I opted for commerce was my interest in commerce-related activities like sales, finance, management to name a few. Further, I joined B. Com (Bachelor of Commerce) in [UNIVERSITY], which helped me upgrade my basic knowledge of commerce subjects and provided meaningful explanations to the basics I learned in school.

Right after my undergraduate studies, I joined [COMPANY], India, Pvt. Ltd. as a Customer service/sales representative. I worked for about 2 years with this organisation for [COMPANY] Credit cards - US market and was promoted to Senior Representative within the first 9 months of joining the organisation. My responsibilities included assisting the [COMPANY] credit card customers with their account maintenance, solving issues with balance reconciliation, assisting with disputing fraudulent charges and also upselling for eligible products as per customer's profile and need over chat and phone.

Going further, I joined [COMPANY] India Pvt. Ltd. as a Senior Credit Specialist in 2019; and here, my responsibilities included working as a Collector/Collections specialist, where I worked on past due inventory of [COMPANY] Credit cards - US market. I was hired for a first party collection role, where I was initially assigned to collect less than 30 days past due accounts. Later, I was nominated for Advanced Collections Mitigation Unit Pilot Program, an advance and later stage of collections, where I was assigned an inventory of highly past due accounts. Most of these accounts were cancelled due to non-continuous payments for a long period and were on the verge of being assigned to an outside collections attorney for potential legal actions if the delinquency continued further. This was a sensitive profile to work upon and it was an honour to be a part of that program and make it a success. Apart from this, I used to send continuous emails with organisational updates so that all the colleagues were aware of any new changes, and also my strategies to develop good collection skills for new joinees so that everyone was able to contribute efficiently within the team. I was promoted as a Master Credit Specialist from Senior Credit Specialist within a year of working with [COMPANY].

Pursuing a Master's course right after completing undergraduate studies was always on cards, however, due to lack of direction regarding the course to opt for along with inadequate finances, I had to take up jobs in two reputed MNCs, where I worked in multiple roles and built a great network. While working in the current role, many of my teammates moved to the human resource department. This is when I became aware of the human resource department, roles and responsibilities of the human resource professionals. The organisation used to run employee referral programs from time to time, so, I started referring candidates from LinkedIn, and my former colleagues, college and schoolmates and started to experience a good success rate. This enthused me to learn more about human resources, equip myself with the required skills from a suitable course and excel in the field to become an asset to the organisation that I work for.

In my experience of more than 4 years, I have acquired many important skills useful in managing people such as leadership, interpersonal relationships, empathy, and time management. My constant endeavour is to help other colleagues and teammates to perform efficiently and create a healthy competition; I believe this skill is useful in almost every field where people are involved. Also, being a frontline specialist, dealing with customers on a daily basis has empowered me with the powerful skill of understanding human behaviour, which plays a critical role while you are working with people.

In view of all this, my long-time dream to pursue a Master's program resurfaced. However, this time, I have made my choice of course. So, this is the reason behind opting for Master's in Human Resource Management from a reputed university. Canada has been my choice of country to study further, owing to its high standard of education, safe environment, good quality of life and diverse culture. The exposure to the courses and the knowledge I gained during undergraduate studies, and the professional experience have made me realize that I have the interest and potential to pursue Master's in Human Resources Management. A Master's degree will help me gain in-depth academic knowledge and industry exposure through internships, advanced projects, and will have a keen focus on developing professional skills. I aspire for a rewarding career in this field.
