Statement of Purpose
Looking back to my childhood, I was a child who was always interested in the automobile sector, be it their design, working, exhaust note, etc. I started to grow my interest in this field and always dreamt of working as an automobile engineer in one of the elite companies in the field like [COMPANY], [COMPANY], [COMPANY], [COMPANY], etc. I was always fascinated by the level of engineering and perfection the employers and designers put into their products in this sector. People always worked with passion and everyone enjoyed what they do.
After taking B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, I found that the course covered a very vast and diverse field in the industrial sector. I learned various sub-courses like fluid dynamics, mechanics, thermal engineering, machine designing, etc., so I found taking a specific part to be necessary. Moreover, B.Tech just covered the basics of everything and couldn't provide what it needs to make me industry-ready. Considering my passion for automobiles, my thirst to gain more knowledge, and my interests in subjects like mechanics, design, thermodynamics, etc., I looked forward to taking an MS.
I sincerely believe that taking an MS would get us a step closer to the industry level. It would also help to gain in-depth knowledge in a specific field and research more about it. MS would also help me to get involved in researches related to the field. I never wanted to enter the industrial world with minimum skills and knowledge. Moreover, I always wanted to be well versed and expert in what I do. I considered taking an MS immediately after the undergraduate course, as I didn't want to lose that energy and thirst to learn more.
A Master's degree in Automotive Engineering equips me with the skills to design, develop, and manufacture mechanical systems for a range of vehicles. This sector is fast-paced and requires creativity. The automobile field was my passion from my childhood and the growing opportunities also attract me to this field. Designing, building, and testing a variety of features involved in an automobile is my dream.
I have been always excited about the latest improvements in transmission systems, vehicle electrification, accessory load reduction through the intelligent energy management of other vehicle components, improved battery management systems, etc. I am also interested in the evolution of the design of the vehicles, their analysis, and various other related sciences.
Throughout my career, I have always tried to direct my track towards the program. First, I tried to get certifications from various 2D drafting and 3D modelling software which is very relevant in the current era of automotive engineering. I took part in a national off-road buggy design competition where we had to completely design and manufacture the buggy. I contributed to the team by designing and analyzing the suspension system of the vehicle. Further, to gain more knowledge about hybrid cars, I took an online internship on hybrid electric vehicles.
I have also taken a professional certification in SolidWorks, Mechanical Design, and general certifications in various other software like CATIA, AutoCAD, Inventor, etc. I have maintained my academic performance from 10th grade to college, which proves my consistency. I have enrolled in internships and courses relevant to the field. I have also taken part in national level and state level vehicle design competitions and also won a few among them.
During my 11th grade, I had made a project along with a friend, based on eddy current braking system and presented it during my school exhibitions. Surprisingly, two [UNIVERSITY] students who visited our exhibition told us that our project was interesting. They then invited us to the national level innovation competition held at [CITY]. Even though we didn't win the prize, we could compete with the best students in the country. I've always considered this event as a spark to ignite my interests further ahead.
I had faced several difficulties while bringing up my interests along with my academics. Finding time for the additional courses, internships, and projects was the most difficult task I faced while building my profile. The most challenging project that I had done was the "Human Powered Vehicle" design competition. I had limited time to complete the project and meanwhile, I had to learn various software for its design and analysis. The aim was to design a three-wheeled human power vehicle, giving importance to its safety and utility. To ensure the safety of the vehicle, the chassis had to be carefully designed and analyzed, both of which required time and experience in different software. To effectively complete the project, I scheduled my daily work accordingly, and at times sacrificed my fun hours at college. To gain more knowledge about the software, my professors helped me with additional sessions. It was effective planning that helped me to complete the project on time. While doing the project, I gained knowledge in software like SolidWorks, ANSYS, and basics of structural analysis and aerodynamics of automobiles.
Keeping a daily schedule and mildly planning the week ahead was always my key to success. This helped me to spend time regularly on my projects and courses. Although, at times I had to sacrifice my sports and other extracurricular activities to keep myself on schedule.
Post MS, I wish to join the best automobile companies as an automobile engineer. I wish to find a position in such elite automakers like [COMPANY], [COMPANY], [COMPANY], [COMPANY], etc., and if possible, I also wish to take my PhD in Automobile Engineering. Within 5-10 years of joining a reputed company, I wish to see myself working as the head of the design/manufacturing/R&D department through consistent hard work with passion.
Being an executive volunteer of Society of Automobile Engineers, College Division, I had responsibilities like managing the ongoing events, scheduling and organizing talks and workshops, etc. I was an active member of a sports club. I had won the department table tennis competition and was also part of the college badminton team. I have always liked to be an all-rounder from my childhood, so I gave equal importance to my academics and other extracurricular activities. I had also volunteered during the Kerala Flood disaster by supplying food and garments to the affected. I had also helped various families in cleaning and restoration of their houses.
To work as an automobile engineer in one of the elite companies in the field like [COMPANY], [COMPANY], [COMPANY], [COMPANY], etc. was always my dream. I was always fascinated by the level of engineering and perfection the employers and designers put into their products in this sector. People always worked with passion and everyone enjoyed what they do.
I have always devoted my time and effort towards this field of engineering. I believe that passion and the thirst to know more are the key to push someone forward, to find their limits. I do want to follow this path and to push myself to reach its pinnacle.
