MBA - Statement of Purpose

I have often seen the role a manager plays in the smooth functioning of an organization. Their role, especially in problem-solving and strategic policymaking has always been a source of fascination to me. Over the past five years of working in Quality Assurance, Sales, and Business development domains, I have learned the value of dealing creatively with challenges and my understanding of organizational management have improved considerably. I understand a manager's role require an encompassing understanding of the business, the people and the operations. A manager possesses the tools to improve and alter business operations and processes to achieve maximum productivity within the organization. Thus, I intend to further my knowledge and experience of advanced business practices, leadership & management in a reputed business school to act as a catalyst of growth for businesses and corporations. Hence, I have applied to study the Masters in Business Administration program 2021 at [UNIVERSITY_NAME].

Having a great interest in Science and Mathematics, the engineering stream of career appealed to me. My father who works as an Engineer at [COMPANY_NAME] and my elder brother who is also a Mechanical Engineer was my guides as well as my inspiration. As an undergraduate student of engineering sciences, I developed an early interest in areas such as Automobile Engineering, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning, Thermal & Fluid Sciences, Heat & Mass Transfer etc. Having developed clarity in fundamental engineering concepts, I began to develop technical and research skills for conducting advanced studies. In my 2nd & 3rd year at college, I secured a Scholarship from [COMPANY_NAME] for good academic performance. As a graduate student, I tried to maintain a balance between extracurricular and academic involvement. Recognizing the value of skills like teamwork and leadership, I volunteered to participate in college sports teams (Football, Cricket and Basketball) and joined event organization and coordination groups to organize many inter-level technical and cultural fests. To gain highly useful technical skills in engineering design, I also completed certification courses in AUTO-CAD Design.

Completing B Tech studies in 2016, I was immediately recruited by [COMPANY_NAME] as a Customer Service Associate and worked in this position for a year before being made the Quality Analyst. In my role as a Quality analyst, I discovered how the associates on the floor were avoiding customer calls by putting themselves on mute and was discovered through the call data report which we used to generate via the tool. It was the case of avoiding customers and [COMPANY_NAME] has zero tolerance towards it and the company and seniors appreciated my efforts to put in place fail-proof processes to deliver maximum customer satisfaction. In another instance, while I was responsible for the NAMessageUs process in [COMPANY_NAME] where we have the feature of parking the customer contact when the customer has been idle for two minutes and the chat would resume when the customer would reply as per his convenience. While I was handed over a team the current trending park percentage of contacts was around 50%. This impacted the customers and delayed the resolution of their concerns. My team constantly delivered a park percentage of around 25%, which was 50% lesser than the teams already in operation. As a Quality analyst, I was awarded the best employee award in the year 2018-2019 for my performance. I was also a key part in setting up quality parameters when the UK process was launched at the site.

My first taste of management came when I was handed the temporary manager role based on my performance in previous projects and roles. I ensured that my team members were comfortable sharing their problems and work-related challenges and coached them on their process to improve their performance. I enjoyed the challenges of being in that role and applying creative management strategies to improve the performance of the company/employee or product. Since then, I have worked in more technical roles in the HVAC industry in India and the Middle East. Having worked in a variety of roles like Team Leader, Resolution Specialist and Senior Application Engineer, I now feel prepared to take on management responsibilities in an organization. In this regard, a Masters in Business Administration will help me develop the professional skills needed to be in a position of leadership.

My work experience involved many instances where I conducted and supervised managerial tasks and operations at the organization. At this point in my career, I have decided to take up higher studies in management and administration sciences. This would enable me to upgrade my knowledge and achieve improved skills, new perspective and career growth in future. I choose to take up this course as it complements my current professional experience and there has been always an edge to the professionals who have an international Masters in Business Administration degree. A Masters in Business Administration from a reputed international educational institute can provide me with a global perspective on business administration and management that will help me apply for such management roles in an MNC.
