MBA in Supply Chain Management

The world's businesses and industries are fast changing due to technological innovations and factors such as automation, climate change, changing workspaces, and a new generation of workforce. As a student looking to make a successful career in the management profession, I must understand the various ways in which these recent changes would affect the way businesses are conducted. In March 2020, I left my corporate job as a Project Engineer and joined my family business, medical and specialty gases. Working as the Logistics Manager and dealing with problem-solving during multiple situations, I applied my knowledge and past experiences in the corporate world to smoothen the business operations and processes. My grandfather first founded the business that I worked hard to develop. He lost his father at an early stage but started the mill's business as a self-taught and self-made man. To date, he serves as my inspiration to perform better every day. Walking in his footsteps, I wish to take the family business forward. To this end, an MBA in Supply Chain / Management Studies is one of the major milestones to achieve before committing myself to my professional dreams.

My teachers saw me as a creative, bright, enthusiastic, and curious student as a school student. Post-school studies, I opted to study the B.Tech, Mechanical Engineering program at [UNIVERSITY]. During this course, I worked on exciting project ideas and gained a strong understanding of engineering, manufacturing, and other industrial operations. In this course, I conducted major project work on the subject of Wind Energy and Product Entrepreneurship. Even when studying a technical approach, I was always thinking in terms of the business and commercial viability of new technologies, innovations, and inventions. Working on the last project, I learned about 3D printing technology and researched entrepreneurial ideas based on the technology for students and universities. Our project theme received endorsement from our university Registrar and got featured in the local newspaper.

Right after finishing college, I opted to join [COMPANY] as a Project Engineer in [CITY]. My technical experience at [COMPANY] helped me develop a vital ability for critical thinking and decision-making. In 2019, I built a tool for rudiment data collection to reduce person-hours for a pharmaceutical domain project. To achieve the goal, I needed to build a team with diverse skill sets. I started by creating a team with the necessary skill sets and trained them. The team had senior colleagues and freshers, and I had to ensure that their performance levels were aligned to meet a high-pressure timeline (180 days). Eventually, the project was a resounding success, and the client praised me for meeting the deadline. In another project, I managed fundraising for a new project as I was promoted to the core committee of [COMPANY] Cares NGO. Here I came up with the idea of a flash mob and street play which achieved the purpose and created awareness about plastic usage. Hence I used my creative and technical abilities to be the best during this period.

While the world was engulfed in the Covid pandemic, I decided to support my family business in medical and specialty gases supply and left the comfortable corporate life in [CITY]. During the first wave, I understood the ropes of the business and learned that ensuring an adequate oxygen supply was essential in the event of a second wave. When the unforeseen second wave hit us, my meticulous planning to build a robust supply chain paid off. I ensured adequate supply by building partnerships with multiple supply sources to keep up with demand. Seeing that customers were facing difficulty procuring oxygen masks and regulators, I took up the distribution of oxygen masks to give a one-stop solution. When customers with the cylinder did not return it promptly after usage, leading to a higher cylinder turn-around time, I added new tactics to ensure minimal turn-around time. Furthermore, competitors pressured me to increase the price to match their elevated prices. However, I took an ethical stand and serviced customers at existing rates keeping in mind the humanitarian crisis.
