MBA SOP Sample for Business Administration in the UK
Sample MBA SOP for Business Administration applicants from engineering backgrounds applying in the UK.
It all began with an evening conversation among friends where we were discussing our aspirations. "[BUSINESS_NAME_1] and [BUSINESS_NAME_2] have brought forth my entrepreneurial side. I now envision myself developing the C-level mindset required to take strategic decisions for taking my business global," I said. Though this was just a casual discussion among friends, putting these thoughts in words led me to hours and days of self-reflection, discussions, and research to identify the steps that would enable this. Being a pragmatic individual, I believe that in order to reach the above goal and to ensure continued success in my career, I need to augment my leadership skills while building on my core business management knowledge and therefore my decision to apply to the MBA program at [UNIVERSITY_NAME_1].
A management consulting role, at a top-tier multi-service advisory firm, would be the first step towards my "thousand-mile journey". I envisage myself driving sustainable business outcomes for my clients by enabling smarter and accelerated decision-making. In the long term, I foresee myself as an entrepreneur making a tangible impact on society through my business venture.
In school, I excelled in academics and was amongst the top 5 ranked students. Being a part of girl scout taught me the importance of discipline and teamwork while representing the school at the State Basketball Championship developed my leadership and teamwork skills. My proclivity towards mathematics and computer science convinced me of pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering and I started preparing for the All India Engineering Examination when I was in the 12th grade. While it was difficult to manage both the preparation and the school academic work, I passed Senior school with first division and also got a seat in my chosen branch at [UNIVERSITY_NAME_2].
The undergraduate years further honed me as an individual. Not only did I build my technical skills but also brought forth my leadership qualities. During the undergraduate program, I worked on two technical projects. The minor project was a student-faculty feedback application, and the major project was a library management application for college built on open source web technologies. For my minor project, when no one from my team volunteered to work on the database architecture, I learned HTML on my own in just 2 weeks, implemented it in the project, and helped deliver a project that was ranked 2nd among all 22 projects submitted that year. My major project too was awarded as the best project that year.
I completed my internship at [COMPANY_NAME_1] and worked on multiple client projects during this time. I was also the founding member of the college magazine community and successfully published the magazine for four years along with designing and creating a promotional website for the annual fest for two consecutive years. I also took part in many activities like code-camping, managing college fest, and campaigning for the college cultural events in other universities and gained confidence, learned negotiation, and how to maintain professionalism, and work under pressure.
Immediately after completing my undergraduate degree, I started my career as a Software Engineer at [COMPANY_NAME_2] and worked for 3 clients, namely [CLIENT_NAME_1], [CLIENT_NAME_2], and [CLIENT_NAME_3]. Working on diverse verticals helped me understand the different needs of the sectors. After working here for 3 years, looking for further growth, I joined [COMPANY_NAME_3] and started working for Australian, Chinese, and Japanese clients. My roles and responsibilities here were to assist the administrators, business analysts, developers, and consultants with configuration, custom solution designing, and technical challenges/queries regarding Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Platform Cloud, and Community Cloud. After a year, I took on more responsibilities by adding more products to my portfolio like Field Service Cloud, Financial Cloud, and Einstein Analytics app. Being a senior member of the team, I took training of the new joining members of the team, and the company and was also a mentor for the freshers batch joining the company.
At [COMPANY_NAME_4], I worked as a Salesforce subject matter expert. Apart from providing the product team assistance with the technical limitations and challenges clients faced with respect to the Salesforce application, I also worked as a dedicated Salesforce Administrator for the company, managing clients, back-end team, troubleshooting CTI, and custom packages.
While working with [COMPANY_NAME_4], I started my two start-ups—namely [BUSINESS_NAME_1] and [BUSINESS_NAME_2]. At [BUSINESS_NAME_1], I was still struggling with the revenue and was not able to meet the expected sales target even after 4 months. After trying multiple approaches, I realized that it was a challenge to procure unique, beautiful, and good-quality components for creating the earrings. I did extensive research on the same and found there was no reliable solution for this problem. That is when I decided to start my second business [BUSINESS_NAME_2] and launched it in August 2021 as an Instagram store. I spent 4-6 hours researching the products online and talked to multiple independent vendors across different cities in India. My research led me to connect with manufacturers in China, Singapore, and Canada. It all started with searching on Instagram and ended up in a wonderful store where I was able to generate close to 6 lakh revenue till the end of November 2021. When I look back I can see that in order to start a business and run it one requires many skills: patience, time management, leadership, decision making, negotiation, relationship management, and many more. After running a business for some time, I have realized there is more to the business world than just being able to set up, sell, and bookkeeping. In order to learn the same from great minds, and experience a diverse, challenging, and competitive environment, I apply to the MBA program at [UNIVERSITY_NAME_1].
The United Kingdom is my first choice to pursue post-graduation in business administration due to the diverse curriculum, and the competitive, engaging study environment [UNIVERSITY_NAME_1]. MBA program is also my first choice due to multiple reasons. The classroom, brimming with diversity, would help me develop a global perspective which I would further enhance through the projects and internships. Engaging with peers, alumni, and faculty, undertaking internships, would act as a catalyst converting what would have been a "career-switch" to a "career-jump". I am confident that this program will give a great foundation for my entrepreneurial goals.
