Statement of Purpose

Since I was a teenager, I've always wondered why people and societies are so diverse. What are the forces that shape our social lives and influence our thoughts, feelings, and actions? I've always been fascinated by the functional and structural dynamics of human society, such as norms, culture, religion, ethnicity, gender, social institutions, and political practices, as well as the elements that influence social development and decline in modern societies. Sociology provides a prism through which I critically examine such issues to comprehend why the world is as it is today. Therefore, after completing my bachelor's degree in sociology, I am really inspired to pursue my master's degree in sociology. To be more competent and to contribute to social development, studies in sociology seem imperative, which will equip me to contribute to society positively.

After achieving a distinct score in my 10th, I was ready to step into the world of college. I never planned on studying sociology – I was always more inclined towards psychology. I was keen on helping people and doing something for society, so every time I thought about a profession, only psychology came to mind. In year 11, sociology came as a combination subject with psychology, and I wasn't much into it. Half a semester later, I was hooked. It allowed me to have a deeper understanding, not only of the world around me, but also of my own life. Society, in my opinion, is something that is always evolving and influenced by a variety of elements. I have always been passionately concerned in society's impact on our actions and the structure of society. Since these issues are relevant to everyone in everyday life, and since sociology is a subject that affects me on a personal level, my motivation for studying sociology stems from my desire to have a positive impact on society.

I knew sociology was the best fit for me. Because I am a critical thinker who wishes for intellectual stimulation, intriguing subjects like gender, feminism, culture, and the environment intrigue me. Sociology appealed to me because it dares to look beyond the surface and discuss the larger socio-cultural context behind human behaviour. Sociology has reawakened my interest in discovering my own perspectives on societal structures. Pursuing a degree in sociology helped me learn to distinguish between sociological research methods, describe social constructs, and teach me how to apply major theories to an understanding of the real world. As a foundation for understanding the rapidly globalising world around us, studying sociology helped me develop analytical problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Outside of academics, I have always been drawn towards the arts and reading novels. Seeing my father growing his business in graphic design made me want to do a course in [SOFTWARE_NAME] as well. This broadened my horizons of understanding and provided more depth to my knowledge.
