Statement of Purpose
I, [NAME], slowly got interested in Virtual & Augmented Reality while pursuing my undergraduate course in Architecture at [UNIVERSITY] in India.
As a very young boy in sixth grade, I found my interest in art and pencil sketching, so I started sketching animation characters from cartoons. In ninth grade, I was able to recognize and understand colors, patterns, and spaces in art. In tenth grade, I got my first computer, which piqued my interest in the development of technology. Then my cousin guided me toward Architecture because of my interest in art. My parents had their own fabrication workshop. My intrinsic qualities are that I like to debate about topics that are of particular interest to me and question them.
I want to study Virtual & Augmented Reality MSc at [UNIVERSITY] in the UK. During the pandemic, I started realizing the use of technology for communication and entertainment became necessary, and I observed the immense growth of technology in the past two decades not only in Architecture but also in Art. In Virtual Reality, one can express ideas and uniquely tell a story. I have seen the changes that occurred during this decade, and with the help of technology, there is so much more we could achieve.
I did my high school at [SCHOOL] in Tamil Nadu, India. I used to play volleyball, football, and gymnastics and participate in competitions. I got 90% in both 10th and 12th grade academics. Like everyone else, I also had the backside of my rough notebook for my own ideas, but mostly for art. After I started realizing the growth of technology, I took the computer science group. When I heard about Architecture from my cousin, I enquired about the course to my teachers in school, but only a few knew that there was such a course. I was very curious. I went to my school director and asked him about the course; surprisingly, he also didn't know about Architecture. Later I came to know it's a growing course in India and a professional course. I learned that not many people can challenge themselves to take up this course, so I wanted to do it.
I pursued my undergraduate course in Architecture at [UNIVERSITY], which is affiliated with [UNIVERSITY] in Karnataka, India. The key study is Architectural Design. One thing about that subject is that we got to design on our own with the help of our faculty. In particular, Architectural Design is where we have to do Schematic Design and Design Development, which mainly depends on our imagination process. During that time, I realized that I could focus on my passion as a career I could enjoy as well.
A few of the important projects I worked on during my undergraduate studies include: a Five Star Hotel where we understood the flow of the building in a tourist area and researched innovative methods to design the hotel in [CITY]; an urban project for [NEIGHBORHOOD] in [CITY] in which we case studied the development from the British colony to the present city and the steady change in cultural dominance over time; a college project where I got to understand area allocation and distribution of spaces and learned how to work on a contoured site; and my thesis project, a cancer hospital in [CITY], where I learned about different types of cancer and how they are treated, learned about negative air pressure in hospitals and disposal of medical waste, and more.
During the final year of my undergraduate studies, I got the opportunity to do my internship at [COMPANY] in the 10th semester in [CITY] from February 2021 to June 2021. This internship was one of the most important experiences. For the first time, I was able to experience the day-to-day work environment, site visits, and interaction with clients and contractors. As an intern in the firm, my role involved the architectural and interior design of residential projects, and I was inspired. It gave me a better understanding of my skill set, provided me with entry-level skills, and made me realize that I wanted to keep working in a practical field and management.
In my undergraduate studies, I was able to take part in [ORGANIZATION] competitions like designing a flag, T-shirt, and other competitions in which everything had software as a base for designing. During my semester break, I began exploring my sketching skills and later opened my Instagram page for my artworks. While in [ORGANIZATION], I won a citation for a college trophy for model making, in which I was leading a team. Later in my 6th semester, the same team from [ORGANIZATION] got a project from [COMPANY] to make a model for Terminal 2 in 1:1000 scale. While working on these projects, I experienced how to manage people, minimize time, and reduce costs by using the correct materials.
