STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I became initially interested in psychology when I observed my younger sister suffering to study and I wanted to help her. I felt so helpless trying to deal with her Learning Disability problem, that I decided to learn more about human behaviour and how to help those who are in need. This experience led me to enrol in psychology course in order to understand more about what motivates people. I have become more and more interested in the field of clinical psychology during my three years at college. Everyone struggles at one point in their lives and being able to help someone is a great and blessed opportunity. Psychology provided me something that the other subjects didn't give, such as a deeper understanding of my mind and behaviour of a person.

After finishing my secondary high school, I joined the Bachelor of Arts program in [UNIVERSITY_NAME] as I wished to explore which subject I would have a special interest in and the course consisted of several subjects including Journalism, Psychology and English Literature. By the end of my first year, I had a mad towards psychology as it was interesting and made me to learn more about it. During my second and third year, I studied about Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Research Methodology, Abnormal Psychology and Industrial Psychology. I was delighted by how the human mind works and how it affects a person's thoughts, feelings and behavior. I enjoyed learning about the psychological disorders, the models of abnormality and cognitive thought process. I enjoyed the research methodology as it helped me to gain a deeper understanding and knowledge of how to conduct research, the different methods in research and the role of importance it plays in psychology as it gives scientific evidence on the new and various perspectives of psychology, psychological theories and factors affecting mental health.

In addition to the courses, I have presented a paper titled "Psychological Distress and Aggression Among Adolescent of Working and Non-Working Parents" in the 3 days International Conference on "Challenges of Workplace Counselling in the new millennium - New approach towards Employee Assistance Program (EAP)" organized by the department of Counselling Psychology, [UNIVERSITY_NAME], [CITY] from 1st to 3rd March, 2019. Second, I have presented a paper titled "Representation Of Women In Films" in one day National Conference on Gender and Media held on 15th March 2019 organised by School of Arts and Humanities, [UNIVERSITY_NAME]. Third, I have presented a scientific research paper titled "Conformance to Peer among Adolescents: An Exploratory Study" in the Two Day International Virtual Conference on Life Competencies of Children And Adolescents of the 21st Century on 28th & 29th May, 2020.

I enjoyed reading about personality theories especially, [THEORIST_NAME]'s Individual Psychology where he describes inferiority and superiority complexes and also about the birth order and how it influences the style of life. By learning these theories, I gained insight on how personality influences human behaviour. I also had a practical paper on Assessment of Personality where, I was exposed to the various types of personality tests such as Draw a Person Test, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, Neo Five-Factor Inventory, Locus of Control and many more.

I completed my first internship as a Special Educator in [ORGANIZATION_NAME], [CITY] duration of one month. I was very much blessed to work with special ability kids. It helped me to become more patience and kind person. It changed my perspective towards special kids.

My second internship program was organised by [ORGANIZATION_NAME] under the supervisor of [SUPERVISOR_NAME], from 26th July to 25th August 2020. During this period I was engaged in various activities such as case discussions, MSE, case history taking. I also attended sessions on psychological assessments, clinical skills, ethics in clinical practice, foundation of CBT and various psychological disorders.

My third internship program was about Organisation internship in [ORGANIZATION_NAME], [CITY]. It helped to analyse the students and their pre & post behaviours. My special achievement is that I was a part of my Department Volleyball team and in a row we won twice the Inter college department Volleyball match (2019 & 2020).

During the pandemic, I enrolled for some of the MOOC courses which helped me to be more productive and learn more about some good topics like School Health and Adolescents, The Art and Science of Relationship: Understanding Human Needs, The Science of Well-being and Mindshift: Break Through Obstacles to Learning and Discover Your Hidden Potential.

I have become tenaciously committed to the beliefs that the most secure way to answer "real world" questions is through some basic research and all these answers should be communicated in a professional and ethical manner to those audiences who can benefit most from them. My undergraduate experiences have encouraged me to continue my education in graduate college, so I can further my research and make a meaningful contribution to the field of psychology.

My goals is that, I want to complete my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology & want to become a clinical psychologist. My desire is to help people to understand their mental illness & help them with their problems and to overcome it. My dream is to research on different aspects of disorders & want to be part of NMH (National Mental Health). I am more interested in knowing how the human brain works and want to know different behaviour a person can possess. I want to handle different cases and help people to solve their problem. A job of a Psychologist is kind of social work so I would want to help the society more.

The reason I am opting this University is that I want to have more field experiences than just the theory knowledge. As I know that theory is the foundation and practical or field experience is the pillar of that foundation. According to the University course it is providing employability skills, presentation to showcase my talent, assessments to be more creative and research opportunities. I believe that teaching is done not only through textbooks and inside the classroom but we can gain knowledge and outer experience too.

UK is a developed country which gives a lot of opportunities to showcase the hidden talent. So to be a professional clinical psychologist a person needs a good Master degree with lot of experiences which the University is providing.
