Statement of Purpose

This degree would enhance my techno-management skills enabling me to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of various processes.
Following my keen interest in the STEM field during high school, I opted to pursue my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from [UNIVERSITY_2]. During my academics, I became well acquainted with modules such as Product Lifecycle Management, Systems Engineering, Project Management, Operations Research. The course, Engineering Economics, augmented my finance, time, resource and team management skills. My hard work ensured I was consistently among the top 3% rankers in my institute. Alongside my academics, I acquired skills in various CAD, CAE and simulation software and implemented them in project and research works.
Following the conclusion of my fourth semester, I got selected to pursue a month-long internship in the Quality Assurance department of [COMPANY_2]. This is where I got acquainted with quality management tools, techniques and practices. I observed the organization's rigorous vendor development process, its role in ensuring high-quality products and its focus on developing long-term supplier relationships to streamline operations. This nurtured my interest in Industrial Engineering.
My academic record and previous internship experience were stepping stones to the splendid month-long opportunity I received to work at the R&D department of [COMPANY_1] as a project intern. The industry-oriented curriculum of my institute helped me to understand the industrial standard with ease. During my tenure, I prepared various ISO documents for the company such as SOPs, PFDs, PFMEAs, operator skill matrices, preventive maintenance, safety checklists. Moreover, the internship gave me an insight into production planning and control, product development strategies, industrial safety and various quality management concepts. This nudged me to the realization that pursuing a Masters in Industrial and Systems Engineering would further my skills in optimizing operational processes to maximize profits at minimum costs.
The potential I displayed during the term of my internship at [COMPANY_1] resulted in a chance to pursue my final year project titled "Design and Manufacturing of Special Purpose Machine for Rolling, Insertion and Expansion of Copper Foam" at their R&D department. To ensure the completion of project on time, I used Critical Path Method (CPM) which helped me keep track of all the activities. This work is published in the Journal "Transactions of the Indian National Academy of Engineering", Springer.
In my 3rd academic year, I was selected as the Manufacturing Head of team [TEAM_1], which participated in the Aero Design Challenge conducted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India. It was an excellent platform for the application of my knowledge of manufacturing processes as well as helping the team to develop themselves and encourage strategic thinking and innovation. Moreover, I initiated a robotics club in our institute named team '[TEAM_2]' leading the team to various robotics competitions and winning prizes at national level. Not limiting to this, I have also bagged several prizes in Badminton Championships across my state leading my institute's team. Such leadership positions strengthened my communication, people and resource management skills, improved my personality and helped me overcome my weaknesses. Having maintained a good balance between my academics and co-curricular activities, I was nominated for the 'Maestro' award and after rigorous interviews and challenges for the same, I was conferred the 'Maestro-Best Outgoing Student of the year' award, which is the most prestigious award conferred on a student in my college.
I am currently working with [COMPANY_3] as a Programmer Analyst Trainee where I got acquainted with Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and SAP PP and SAP MM software enabling me to offer my client, [COMPANY_4], solutions to improve their current MES and ERP system and then testing the feasibility of the solution. This was the time when I was sure that graduate knowledge is a must to upgrade my skill set and boost my career.
