Statement of Purpose

Due to the lack of job opportunities at my bachelor's level in the field of cardiac perfusion technology, I diverted my curiosities towards other professional courses. By attending several education fairs and seminars and interacting with university representatives, I came across multiple business and management programmes. Out of these, a career in supply chain management and logistics appealed the most to me as it is a rapidly expanding field with a high rate of employment. As a graduate from this course, I would be able to find jobs in retail, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, automobile, healthcare, agriculture and many more industries. Due to the wide range of opportunities available, I would like to study this course at a master's level.

Furthermore, to broaden my knowledge and find a better understanding of the programme, I invested my time in reading books and articles on supply chain management. On reading The Fundamentals of Supply Chain Management by [AUTHOR NAME], I understood that it is a process of flow of goods and services from raw materials to finished products and its main aim is to provide quality goods and reduce production costs. It is essential for business success and customer satisfaction. The topic that led to my interest was the sustainable supply chain and how industries can reduce carbon emissions to tackle the climate crisis.

A great example of this is [COMPANY NAME]'s sustainable supply chain. Their key feature is build-it-yourself furniture which enables them to package their parts in flat boxes which are easily stacked. By this, they can stack and ship more items in fewer trips thereby reducing carbon emission and being cost-efficient. Due to this strategy, their products become affordable to the global mass consumers. As their store and warehouse are one entity, they can reduce inventory expenses.

Many other companies have adopted their strategies in maximizing profits and minimizing waste generated, like the popular Japanese automobile company [COMPANY NAME], which is the largest exporter across the world. They created a unique manufacturing system called lean manufacturing. Through this, they were able to reduce waste and error and decrease their inventory cost by manufacturing in small batches. An example of an agile supply chain is the fast-fashion clothing brand named [COMPANY NAME]. The key to their success is being able to satisfy customer demands by quickly responding to trends, design and fashion forecasts to produce high-quality garments.

Due to an increase in globalization and e-commerce and the development of information technology, supply chains are transforming. They now can manage big data, the possibility to trace where and how products were created, tracking the product order to be delivered to the customer, better inventory management and being transparent in the whole process.

Though coming from a non-business background, my time spent in the operation theatres along with highly qualified individuals has equipped me with team working, organizational and communication skills. Under such a critical environment, I was able to work under pressure and have developed skills in critical problem-solving. By setting up the heart-lung machine for various surgical operations, I have developed my time management skills. I also took up presentations and demonstrations through which I was able to express my knowledge, which further developed my confidence. I firmly believe that these attributes would be crucial to develop a strong base to the starting point in this new profession and would make me a potential candidate for this course.

My interests in the field further developed when I landed my first job at a start-up health food cloud kitchen based in my state. Apart from the knowledge gained through books and articles, I now was able to put the theories and my ideas into the practical "real world." During my time at work, I was involved in inventory planning, quality control, forecast planning, training team members and other potential candidates, creating tasks, schedules and checklists to ensure smooth operation of the business. I also initiated sourcing potential vendors, negotiating and building successful relationships with both local as well as well-established companies. Seeing the final product being arranged first hand and eventually reaching customers has given me a good understanding of the key processes involved in supply chain management and its importance.

My decision to study for a Master's in International Business and Supply Chain Management at [UNIVERSITY NAME] is specifically based on the course and its modules which will provide me with a strong understanding of the subjects, its reputation and ranking, excellent teaching staff, world-class infrastructure and facilities, and the location. Through the university's YouTube channel, I got a glimpse of the student life and discovered various activities, restaurants and historic sites that the city has to offer.

Studying in the United Kingdom would be a dream come true as it follows a good education system and is home to well-reputed universities. Due to the introduction of the two-year post-study work visa, the UK has been a popular destination among Indian students as they can work and gain the skills and knowledge required to succeed in their profession. Moreover, a British degree is highly recognized by most countries, allowing its graduates to secure jobs in any part of the world. Studying here as an international student would make me independent, confident, face challenges and would be a perfect way to prepare me for an international role.

My hobbies include baking and cooking as I love to learn, create and experiment with new techniques. Recently, I experimented with the liquid from canned chickpeas to make a vegan meringue. I also enjoy travelling, visiting historic monuments, and exploring different cultures and cuisines. In my free time, I try to learn a new language by attending workshops and watching TV dramas on the internet. This would be particularly helpful in meeting and communicating with new people and establishing a connection, which I feel is advantageous in this industry.

I am very much aware of the high demand for this course and a career in supply chain management is exceptionally diverse, which can lead to many opportunities. I believe getting a good education is key to success and the opportunity to study at your university would help me achieve my career goals by enhancing my academic knowledge and professional skills.
