STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

A few decades ago, people believed that getting to know a person is a lifelong process; even after spending an ample amount of time together, it was tough to predict their next move. It is not because humans are inefficient, but one reason could be a lack of very efficient level observation skills. Even if we observe a person for our entire lives, we cannot record all of their activities, it is inevitable for us to avoid every work of ours and monitor someone else. So what is the difference between that time and now?

The answer lies in the progress of technology. The advancements that technology has brought to the tables of humankind include new ideas. These have not only predicted likes and dislikes but very well anticipated human reactions (even identified frauds). So what actually made this all possible? Data Science; a field that deals with cleaning, manipulating, analyzing and interpreting inferences from data.

My life journey is filled with ups and downs, but every challenge thrown my way has been dealt with dedication, perseverance, and hard work. I was not the brightest student in the class; I found it very hard to grasp what was being taught in class. I was never a born prodigy; hence I have seen this world from the bottom and luckily from the top as well, ranging from being a white cardholder (a card which one is given when one fails) to having a pink card (highest merit-based honor in our school). As I realized that many tasks of living beings are pattern-driven, my fascination with patterns began. I was amazed to see how our browser could personalize our recommendations and knew what I wished to buy even after deleting my search history. As an inquisitive person, knowing something like this has always enamored me.

As a primary school student, I was very average at studies and had bad handwriting and no self-confidence. One of my teachers noticed this; she tried to instill in me a sense of confidence. That was not an immediate process, in fact, even to get the best flavors out of a simple pickle, we have to give it some time. By that time, I realized the value of inevitable hard work and from there, a new side of me started evolving, a girl who was trying new things and was not hindered by fear, failure, or embarrassment. She assigned me duties; speaking prayers in front of 3000 students in the morning assembly; while it was not an arduous task for anyone, but for me, it was a mountain that I had to climb. Gradually, saying that prayer prepared me for more.

I met a lot of teachers in my life who encouraged me to try new things and without leaving my studies behind. Later on, with the help and guidance of my teachers, I improved my academics as well, as I said, from a white card to a girl's topper (overall 2nd) of my batch while leaving my school. I passed with a score of 95.6% from my school and hence was able to grab a seat at [UNIVERSITY_NAME]. I had taken Statistics as my major. Soon I got a notice stating my selection for [SCHOLARSHIP_NAME] scholarship, a scholarship funded by the Government of India and is given to top 10,000 students every year based on their performance in class 12th and which can further be continued till your masters if the student shows satisfactory performance, and I received the same for my undergraduate studies. This was the first time I could buy a laptop with my own money!

At college, my teachers were really supportive, they introduced us to the wonderful uses of statistics in every field, and they made us realize the importance and benefits of analyzing data. Moreover, they developed a base of statistics in our minds. They made us do projects based on a statistical analysis of real-world problems. Not only professionally, but they even guided us personally.

Owing to my teacher's support, I even tried to work on some random datasets to get interpretations out of it, and one such project is The Crime Analysis of India, which I prepared on my own, but while I was doing the project, I realized that the knowledge I have could bring only some inferences out of data. However, a missing knowledge gap was found, I still needed to learn some more techniques to get better interpretations, such as a better trend analyzing system and a good way to forecast accurately as trend analysis cannot solve all the problems.

The course MSc in Statistics with Data Science offered by [UNIVERSITY_NAME] will offer practical uses of statistical theories and I am really keen to dive deeper into the field. Your esteemed university's curriculum gives equal importance to practical-based knowledge, which I have been eager to explore. Keeping in mind the exceptional facilities your university provides, I am happy to present my candidature for the Master's program and look forward to fruitful association with the university.
