Statement of Purpose

I developed a passion for cars at a very young age. I was intrigued by their mechanisms, features and functions, and always had the desire to enhance my knowledge and make a career in this field. In recent times, cars are not only a convenient means of transport but also a symbol of power and status. With the production of energy efficient vehicles and electric vehicles, the automobile industry has made huge strides and has seen an upward trend in innovations over the years. Fascinated by the mechanical and performance aspects, as well as the expanding scope of this field, I chose to become an Engineer, and thus graduated in Mechanical Engineering from [UNIVERSITY_1]. While doing internships during and after graduation, it dawned on me that my knowledge is insufficient to achieve my long-term goal of owning my own electric vehicle manufacturing company. In order to enhance my knowledge, I decided to pursue a Master's degree in Project Management at your esteemed University.

I have had a good academic record throughout my school life, being in the top 5 students of the class throughout my school life. I completed my 10th standard in 2015 with 72% and secured 74% (Science stream) in 12th standard in 2017. Since my passion was to become an engineer, I focused on subjects like Mathematics and Physics, and excelled in them during High School. I always participated in competitions and events related to science and technology that were organized by the school, and displayed outstanding performance. I was also a sports enthusiast as a teenager. I played cricket and participated in athletics and inter-school events that were held every year. I was also a member of the music society as I had a strong affinity for music and I also enjoyed playing the guitar.

The scope of mechanical engineering in India and abroad is enormous, as every aspect of our lives is somehow influenced by this field. Career opportunities for students after completing the program are tremendous across multiple industries. I completed my bachelor's degree B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) from [UNIVERSITY_1], with a percentage of 69%. It not only equipped me with the basic understanding and knowledge of how heavy machinery works, but also sharpened my skills in designing, researching and manufacturing equipment. While pursuing this degree, I was able to develop my knowledge in a wide variety of areas, including chemistry, physics, structures and computer applications. My favourite subjects during graduation were Automobile Engineering, Material Science, Computer Aided Design, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Entrepreneurship Development. I also started learning basic design software and then went up to more advanced ones (Solidworks, NX, Catia).

I had my first three-month industrial training during the 2nd year of my bachelor's degree. I worked on multiple projects during my graduation. One of the projects was "Build a Go-kart" for a Go-Kart Championship, in which I had the opportunity to be a part of the design and development team. The experience taught me how an approach is made, planning and execution, time management and also gave a major boost to my self-esteem. A fun and interesting project where I learned about mechatronics was "Robot Wrestling" for an inter-college event. I designed and developed lighting systems for [COMPANY_1] in Maharashtra. The goal was to make the designs simple but elegant, suitable for smart homes. I successfully completed two projects with them.

Apart from academic achievements, I was the head of the Music Society at the university and the lead vocalist of the music band '[BAND_NAME]'. I started "[PROJECT_NAME]" in the university. It was a community service initiative, where we asked the students to donate and volunteer for those in need. Later, we got linked with '[NGO_NAME]' which is an NGO in Delhi.

I completed two internships during my graduation. I interned with [COMPANY_2] as an Associate Intern (June 2019 – August 2019), a Solar Power Systems company in Uttar Pradesh, India. Some of my duties were to track project activities, help in project planning, maintain project calendar and ensure deadlines. The second internship was with [COMPANY_3] (June 2021 – August 2021), a fluid processing equipment manufacturing company in Delhi, where I was responsible for design and development of equipment and ensuring smooth production. Currently, I am working as a Junior Design and Development engineer in the same company. Due to my hard work and dedication, my overall performance at work has been great. Overcoming challenges with my good problem-solving skills was always an easy way for me to bring out efficiency and perfection. I have worked on projects with well-known brands of [COMPANY_4], i.e., [BRAND_1], [BRAND_2] and [BRAND_3]. Currently I am working on a project with [COMPANY_5], which is an Indian adhesive manufacturing company.

At this stage, I realized that a post graduate degree is imperative to help me move closer to my goal. Being an automotive enthusiast, specific knowledge about the field increases proficiency in a particular discipline. A master's degree will help me gain industrial knowledge through internships, advanced projects, and also benefit me by developing my professional skills. My short-term goal is to work in an India based automotive company, and work on projects to refine my knowledge and skills, to bring the best out of me. Working with them will help me overcome the challenges that may arise when I start working on my own designs and projects, which will be beneficial for me in the long run. My long-term goals encompass starting my own electric car manufacturing company. The automotive sector is a large contributor to environmental pollution. In order to reduce the carbon emissions, switching to electric vehicles is the best option. My start-up of manufacturing electric cars will be my contribution to make the world a better place for all life forms.

United Kingdom was my first choice for postgraduate studies as it is one of the most cosmopolitan countries in Europe. It is home to some of the most internationally renowned universities offering quality education and strong research infrastructure. After extensive research, I discovered that your esteemed University is one of the most diverse places to study, as it offers my desired course. Some of the aspects that I was looking for, like encouraging creative thinking, development of leadership and management skills, and research opportunities are being covered in the course offered at your university. My hard work, dedication, positive attitude, good communication skills and leadership qualities will help me to adapt to the new culture and environment. Music has played an important role in my life. Music not only made me happy but also connected me to people and gave me confidence. I am confident of meeting the high standards demanded by this course.

A degree from a reputed University like yours will serve as a firm foundation for a successful career in the industry. I am hopeful that the admissions committee finds my academic and work accomplishments in accordance with the requirements of the Master's in Project Management program and accepts my application.
