SOP Sample for MS in Mechanical Engineering in GB - Fresh Graduate
Sample SOP for MS Mechanical Engineering applicants from GB with no work experience, showcasing a fresh graduate profile.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
To me, mechanical engineering is the be-all and end-all when it comes to my career. My interest in this field goes back to my childhood days when I was fascinated with machines as well as automobiles. It is this same interest that guided me to pursue a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and it is this same interest that now motivates me to push my boundaries and apply for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. This program will allow me to build on my undergraduate knowledge in a range of disciplines such as automotive, aerospace, automation, biomedical, and fluid mechanics. I especially look forward to building my knowledge and skills related to designing mechanical systems in the master's program. After the Master's, I wish to take up roles related to designing in the automotive industry and dream to design products like [PRODUCT_NAME]. I look forward to gaining valuable technical knowledge by studying this course from your esteemed university and applying my knowledge to create new products or create modifications of existing ones.
Coming from a modest background, my parents always placed a great deal of importance on education. Even though my father was not highly educated and worked as a driver outside India, my parents made sure that I get the best education possible. However, my life turned topsy turvy in the 6th grade when my father suffered from paralysis on one side and had to quit his job. Our well cushioned life was jolted and I saw my mother struggle hard to make ends meet with the savings we had. Seeing this only made me more self motivated and I gave my best to the only venue I had - education and extracurricular activities. I went on to perform extremely well in the 10th and 12th grades scored 95% and 98% respectively. Apart from academics, I took a keen interest in community service during my high school days and was a part of NSS community service initiatives.
My performance in the engineering entrance exam helped me get admission to B Tech in Mechanical Engineering, [UNIVERSITY_NAME]. My affinity for physical products over programming or simulation made the decision to choose my subject of under graduation extremely easy. Studying different practices of manufacturing, use of machines, designs, research, equipment, and control systems was something which I enjoyed thoroughly. Automobiles, Mechanics of Solids, Refrigeration, and Air conditioning became my favorite subjects. I also remember our eminent faculty routinely emphasizing the importance of practical training and internships so that we could get to try the theoretical concepts in practice and make ourselves industry ready. Heeding their well intentioned suggestions, I got involved in many practical training and internships and enhanced my knowledge in the field.
For my project "Automatic tire inflation & deflation system", we developed a product that decreases tire wear while improving fuel economy, performance, and safety of passenger vehicles through dynamically adjustable tire pressures. My next project was analysing the significant criteria for sustainability in the automotive industry using interpretive structural modelling and MICMAC analysis and I further built my technical and team skills here.
I went on to do two internships to further build on my practical knowledge. During my internship with [COMPANY_NAME], I learned about industrial safety and health rules and regulations, fire prevention and protection, welding and cutting, and ergonomics. Since the covid pandemic had resulted in a country wide lockdown, my second internship with [COMPANY_NAME] was an online one and I learned about the basics of diesel and gasoline engines, advancement in diesel and gasoline injection systems, vehicle air conditioning systems, and functions. Simultaneously, I also did certifications in Manufacturing System Technology, and Machine Learning from [INSTITUTION_NAME], Fluid Mechanics Basics, SOLIDWORKS, and CATIA V5 from [PLATFORM_NAME] to further enhance my knowledge.
During the undergraduate program, I did odd jobs after college to pay my course fee and to earn some pocket money. I also give free tuition to orphans on weekends and help them with their academics.
My life has been a testament to my diligence and the sweet fruits of my hard work. However, I now wish to expand my horizons and study for a Master's in Mechanical Engineering from an international university. Studying in the UK has always been a dream of mine as the country is filled with numerous top ranking universities. The fact that the universities here offer the optimum combination of theory and practice and allow students to customize their program, makes it a perfect destination for me. I also wish to make use of the two year post study work visa and work with a top UK company and gain international exposure before coming back to work in India.
I wish to study at the University because of multiple reasons. The industry oriented and interdisciplinary curriculum of this university attracts me the most. I am also in awe of the highly experienced faculty here who no doubt will share their wealth of experience and further enrich my learnings. The small class size, and the unique facilities offered by your university also convinces me of my excellent learning here. Studying at your University will give me the chance of selecting subjects of my choice and according to my area of interest, thus greatly improving my chances of performing well in the course and paving way for a successful career in the field. I am confident that I have all the qualities to make an ideal candidate and assure you that I will prove to be a worthy candidate for the program.
