As an undergraduate student of Computer Science, I got to learn database management systems which was my first ever interaction with the way data is stored and manipulated. In the progressive semester, in a software engineering course, I developed an online quiz portal, in which teachers could conduct a quiz using the portal for their class and for every quiz, the teacher could generate a quiz code. For backend I used PHP and MySQL for database management, under the guidance of professor [PROFESSOR_NAME]. I learned how to integrate the front-end and back-end of the application using Model-View-Controller architecture. The development of this portal combined the concepts of Object-Oriented Programming and Database Management. In my first year, I got an opportunity to work on my communication skills and handle a leadership position as senator of 1st year in the sports council. After that, in my second year, I worked as an event coordinator in the university's sports festival in which I coordinated and managed marketing, sponsors, public relations and tech teams. I explored my ideas in college through a small startup by way of which I tried solving the problem of students' food availability by arranging to deliver food from city to college (as college was 10 km away from the city). I was also a candidate in the elections for the position of general senator of the sports council at [UNIVERSITY_NAME]. This project was crucial in teaching me the art of research, which further taught me how to persevere while poring through large sources of information.

However, getting exposure to the decision making process was something I was missing out on in a MNC and I also wanted to get an experience in database and backend technologies. To take charge of projects and work on directly managing projects intimately, I joined [COMPANY_NAME]. I am working on designing, configuring and developing databases for backend applications in python and django. Also, I have to manage multiple tasks like collaborating with outsourced teams, coding and designing.

Knowing that the final goal is to help companies with better decision making I knew that data science is the right way to make it happen. Therefore, I am also pursuing an online postgraduate diploma from [UNIVERSITY_NAME] in ML & AI. In this course, I have learned about data analysis using excel, sharpened my skills in SQL, learned machine learning algorithms and I also interacted with a lot of industry experts who are my mentors in this course. As part of this course, I have also solved multiple problems and worked on case studies.

With all the knowledge and experience I have gained so far through my academic and professional pursuits - first as a professional developer for more than 2.6 years now and for about a year working on some decision making process in the project in my current company, I realized my potential both as developer and a manager. A masters in MIS at this juncture will help me enhance my skills in decision making in technology management process; and the best way to make decisions is by analyzing and learning from data. I want to work in small scale organisations or startups as I believe there I individually will have more responsibility and I will thrive more.
