Statement of Purpose

Right from my school days, I have always been fascinated by automobiles. This fascination led me to take up Mechanical Engineering as my undergraduate program. During the course, I was equipped with the necessary knowledge required for the domain through core courses, workshops and competitions. All this had transformed my fascination into a passion and I decided to quench my thirst for gaining more knowledge by undertaking a master's.

During my undergraduate studies, I did not confine myself to a specific field. Rather, I frequently took practical courses such as Computer Programming using MATLAB, where I learned to solve problems by writing programs. I also undertook training in Creo and Ansys. As a part of my mini-project, I designed a working model of a pick and place robot. Out of my interest in automobiles, we formed a group of 10 students, and with the financial support of my college, designed and self-fabricated an Eco Kart. With the same project we participated in the National Level Eco Kart Championship and stood 5th in the competition among 84 teams from top universities in the country.

After completing my bachelor's, I took up my master's studies in Tool Design at [UNIVERSITY_NAME], where I was equipped with the knowledge required to design tooling required for production. As a part of academics, I joined as an intern in [COMPANY_NAME] in the R&D Department. Here I gained practical experience of working in an R&D environment and I was also exposed to the life of a research engineer. I loved every minute of my work, especially the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge projects and discuss ideas with senior engineers. I soon realized that, although I enjoy handling complex tasks and processing the results, I am not going to be satisfied with carrying out routine procedures under the direction of others. I want to be part of the team that directs the course of the project. There I realized the importance of knowledge in CAE.

After graduation, I joined as a CAE Trainee Engineer (Intern) in [COMPANY_NAME], [CITY]. They deal with several projects from multiple MNCs. I worked on generating FE models and analyzing their durability. There I got a chance to explore industrial applications of FEA and also explored the design part of multiple projects. During this time I worked extensively on Hypermesh and Abaqus for durability analysis of automotive assemblies.

After one year of CAE experience, I was placed in the R&D Department of [COMPANY_NAME], a Swedish MNC and leading manufacturer of mining equipment. Considering my qualification and my previous experiences, I was asked to work with the Design & CAE team as support for FEA model generation. During my first year in [COMPANY_NAME], I worked on the optimization of forging designs by doing structural analysis of alternate designs to reduce weight and saved a good amount of money in terms of forging input material weight, man and machine hours. As a result, I received the Performance Award 2018 for innovative designs and cost-saving to the company. During 2019, I received the Innovation Award for my major contribution to the Omega-S project completion (a new generation mining drill bit equipment). Currently, I am handling the QC responsibility of drawings for one complete product portfolio with ASME Y14.5 Standards and supporting the Master Data team in parallel with the design activity. I have received the Performance Award 2020 for the vital role in the QC of drawings.

I have gained 3 years of experience in the R&D field. Since my workplace is in the production facility, that has boosted my practical knowledge and technical skills in the industry. I have been working with the CAE teams to develop and optimize the designs of mining equipment. As a part of field visits, I visited South Africa in 2019 to check the performance of the mining equipment, which helped me to gain knowledge of application problems. Apart from this, I have participated in many safety competitions during Safety Week and am also an active sports member of my company tournaments. I am the only social brand ambassador of the company [COMPANY_NAME] from the [CITY] Product Company, which helped me to get good exposure in the global arena. I was equally competitive when it comes to extra-curricular activities.

My passion for engineering management motivated me to get back to academics. We are in the decade of technology shift where skilled engineering management professionals are required, and this always excites me to learn things in this field.
