Statement of Purpose

My long-term goal is to become a senior data scientist and lead the data science vertical of my firm.

My interest in data science was piqued during my internship with [COMPANY_3] and I started exploring the field further. I was amazed to know that poor quality of data results in a 15 million dollar loss annually to organizations while only a measly 10 percent increase in the accessibility of data can lead to an increase in revenue of 65 million dollars for a Fortune 1000 enterprise. I became hooked and started exploring the field further. The more I read about the field, the more convinced I became that I wish to make my career in this fast-evolving field and thus my application to your university.

Having been brought up in an educated family, I have been blessed to have parents who instilled in me the values of discipline and diligence. Education was always given priority and there was no compromise for it. This coupled with my naturally curious mind made me give my best and I started excelling in academics at a young age. Our school encouraged thinking and problem-solving by asking students to make projects and I loved working on these. I completed my schooling with a 9.6 CGPA from the [EDUCATION_BOARD]. An important part of my growing up years was my interest in science which motivated me to choose Maths, Physics, and Chemistry as my core subjects in the 12th grade. I completed my intermediate with 92% and chose Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) with a specialization in Math, Statistics, and Computer Science as my undergraduate major.

It was during the undergraduate program that I started having a growing interest in computers and statistics. I found studying topics such as Descriptive Statistics and Probability, Statistical Methods and Theory of Estimation, Statistical Inference, and Probability Distribution extremely interesting. Computers too became one of my favorite subjects and I loved learning Programming in C, C++, Java, and Python. I also developed my skills in Web development using HTML & CSS, Bootstrap, MySQL, and PHP.

As mentioned above, I did a one-month internship with [COMPANY_3] and worked on web scraping and collecting data from a given software. This data was evaluated for further process and insights. This was my first exposure to data and I absolutely loved every aspect of working on it. Even though this internship gave me a sneak peek into the vast and evolving field of data science, it was enough to make me decide on studying this for my Master's.
