Statement of Purpose

Technology has made its advances in so many ways in the modern world. So much so, that now, predicting the possibilities of anything is just a matter of data and numbers. Be it predicting the weather, the health of a person, or advertisement recommendations, it is all about the data. In other words, we are surrounded by data. This is a thought that has intrigued me over the years and it still continues to catch my interest every time I think about it. This has led me to choose a Master's course in Data Science so that I can gain a deeper knowledge in this field and thus, apply it well in my professional life.

As a child, I always had a keen interest in the subject of Physics. It always made me wonder how most of the questions of our existence could get answered by an equation in Physics. This interest led me to take up Science subjects during my high school, along with Maths and Biology. By the time I completed high school, I had started to take an interest in electronics, as a result of which I took up Electronics and Communication during my Bachelor's.

I completed my Bachelor's in the year 2017 from [UNIVERSITY]. In the four years that I spent there, I was exposed to various subjects starting from Semiconductors to Microwave and Digital Electronics to Computer Programming. I was so intrigued by how electronics is dependent on Computer programming and this was the path that led me to take a deep interest in programming. Although we had only C and C++ in our college curriculum, I had even taken up some short basic courses on Python and that was the first time I had heard about the term Data Science. I didn't understand it much back then, but over the years, that changed.

I had received a campus offer from [COMPANY], but it wasn't until late 2018 that I had joined the company as they had provided the offer letter a year late. In that gap of one year, I decided to explore some non-technical areas and thus I decided to try my hands on Digital Marketing and Content Writing. I worked in a startup for 3 months as an intern where I learnt about the various strategies companies use to build their business from scratch. It was a great experience for me as I had stepped into a completely new world with endless questions and answers. During this internship, I had done some minor Data Analysis work and this was the first time when I realised that every type of data was important data for a business to thrive.

As soon as I joined [COMPANY], I received a few internal trainings from the company on SQL and Computer Programming and was assigned to a Business Intelligence project for a Telecommunications company. In this project we were responsible for the end to end flow of mobile data and the prevention of possible data leaks that could happen during this flow. I was also responsible for reporting any such data leaks with the help of reporting tools through extensive analysis and also on solving those leaks. Soon after the project was over, I was assigned to another project which was again with another Telecommunication client. Although a telecommunication client, this project was more focussed on the revenue generation part of the company. Predicting the revenue at risks by vigorous data analysis and trying to prevent data leaks was the major focus of this project. It was this project that acted as an eye-opener and I realised the importance of Data analysis and Data Science. Although I had been working on data analysis for quite sometime, I felt I lacked some knowledge which could make the work much more quicker and efficient. I tried to go for self learnings and have completed a short course on Data Science with Python from [PLATFORM], but realised that it was not enough. This was when I decided that I would want to pursue my Master's Degree in Data Science.

After the completion of this course, I intend to pursue a career as a Data Engineer where I look forward to take up all upcoming challenges to solve complex business problems. This course will help me become intellectually capable and will prepare me to set out on an exhilarating and challenging path. I also wish to work for research projects, that will be a stepping stone for futuristic innovations, which in turn will help us shape a better tomorrow.
