Statement of Purpose
At a young age, my parents introduced me to the abacus, and during this, I learned that these were the first computers. My young self was amazed that this instrument was the very front-runner of the computer at that age. It was my beginning or stepping stone into the world of computers. Technology advances never cease to amuse us. What was unimaginable even ten years ago is now a part of our routine lives. It wouldn't be wrong to infer that the modern era is ruled by data—both raw and actionable, with our travel plans, educational initiatives, and shopping habits manipulated by this extremely potent entity. With every online and offline activity generating humongous amounts of insightful data, it is appropriate that professionals devise extremely targeted techniques for assimilating, analyzing, and amalgamating the insights.
As a person, I have tried to be open to education in all senses of the word to improve my personality and touch human lives. I believe such moments have a persuasive role in implanting a deep-seated love for crucial components related to the field. Thus it was clear; I took up computer science engineering for my undergrad. My aim has always been to create bespoke ideas through computation to make our lives more sustainable and our planet a lot more habitable. I have tried to mould my career precisely in a manner of continuous learning, envisioning myself to work towards the betterment of human beings. Realizing that my proficiency in the domain is still incandescent, I strive to take my formal education to the next level. In this pursuit, I wish to apply for MS in Data Analytics.
I wasn't the brightest at school, but I always gave it my best, which has worked in my favour. I tried to make the best of the curriculum and extracurricular opportunities to condition my intellect and develop a general perspective on the world. Slowly I understood that computers are the epitome of all innovation and creation. My rational and analytical mindset found solace in programming. Thus, I laid my hands to try different permutations and combinations of algorithms to get the desired outcomes. It engrained a perennial passion for computer science. Hence, I spent most of my time learning SQL, Python, and Oracle Database management systems, broadening my knowledge horizon. Thus, my career choice was evident, and I channelized my efforts accordingly.
Embarking on my vocational learning, the undergraduate computer science and engineering program opened a whole new avenue for me to explore and learn. I derived a practical aspect to the theories learned in the classrooms. Being an integral aspect of the teaching pedagogy, the projects kept my learning momentum going and amplified experiential learning. Owing to my managerial acumen and a better grasp of concepts, I spearheaded most of the projects. Over time, I honed my networking and computing skills and aced well through the program.
The moment I took up and started exploring more about predicting cyclones with Machine Learning at the helm, with this thought, I undertook the project '[PROJECT_NAME]', which was a web application to call request volunteers for social welfare activities. The app was built using Java, HTML & CSS in the frontend, and MySQL was used for backend development. During the project, I actively collected relevant data and put them to use while deploying ML technologies on the way. It helped create a predictive engine of sorts, thereby assisting users with trend analysis and data visualization.
Secondly, I created '[PROJECT_NAME]', the application to track all incomes and expenditures and any organization or person; I used Python for the development. The project involved data cleansing techniques for improving the accuracy of inferences and deductions. A detailed prediction graph followed the results. During my undergrad years, I completed a certification course on C++ from [INSTITUTION], completing it with a 77 percentile gradation. I have also undergone a certification course on Java from [INSTITUTION]. I have completed the course and passed with distinction due to scoring 80%.
Currently, I'm working at [COMPANY] as a Technical Support Engineer. I have learned a lot regarding customized professional development requirements, automated testing, C++, C#, and Agile Methodologies.
I firmly believe that if professionals are interested in enhancing their problem-solving skills and technical prowess, pursuing Data Science is the best way forward. With business conglomerates like [COMPANY] collecting almost 2.5 petabytes of data hourly, it is pretty apparent that Big Data and Data Science applications are proliferating. Pursuing a Master's in Data Analytics from [UNIVERSITY], would I be able to help businesses make profitable decisions in the future by putting the concepts of Big Data to use. With Data Analytics to work with, I will have the ability to manipulate the existing organizational parameters in some more prudent ways. Moreover, my academic skills, work experience, and other credentials would help me understand the international Data Science curriculum in a much more explicit manner. I would, therefore, be an asset to the university and would request you to give me an opportunity when it comes to pursuing a Master's in the preferred domain of study.
