Statement of Purpose

The advancement of technology has dramatically changed every aspect of human life, be it education, medical treatment, or communication. Technology has become an essential part of our life, and has made everything around us much simpler than before.

As a child, I was fascinated with mobile phones, computers, electronic gadgets and was curious to know how they worked. My father, an engineer, would tell me that to understand this I would need to become a Software Engineer. Passionate for the subject, I studied Computer Science in high school, and learned Java programming for two years. This exposed me to the world of coding for the very first time and I knew I was on the right track. I decided to pursue Computer Science in my undergraduate studies and near its end, I realized that I need to expand my technical skill set.

At age four, I secured first position in the interviews for gaining admission to [HIGH_SCHOOL_NAME]. I was studious, performing well academically, and was a flautist in my school band and orchestra. I perfected all stages within six months, and was selected to be a part of the school band in fifth grade. I was the head of the Dramatics Team and secured the 3rd place in Inter-house dramatics in 8th grade. In 9th grade I participated in the [COMPETITION_NAME] and qualified for the city finals. I chose the Science stream after 10th, secured 1st place in a Mathematics Project Exhibition and secured 2nd place in a Chemistry competition.

In college, I joined the Collegiate Social Responsibility club to contribute to the various awareness drives conducted by the club. I did many projects during the course of my undergraduate program. One was "Identifying Image Credibility Using Advanced Forensic Algorithms". In recent times, manipulation of images has become easy which has led to a great growth in crimes such as insurance fraud and cyberbullying. Most of the time it is very difficult to identify if the image is forged or not. This project aims at identifying manipulation in an image by using different forensic methods which can help one prove the authenticity of an image so that true evidence/information is in circulation. This project was our capstone project for the final year of B.Tech. I came up with my own algorithm which eliminated the disadvantages of the existing methodologies used in verifying image forgery. Initially, my panel didn't approve it. I incorporated all the advice I received from the panel of judges and in my final implementation, I was able to gain everyone's appreciation as my algorithm had succeeded in giving correct results. This experience showed me the tenacity I had.

I worked for a Cyber Forensics Research Project at the [RESEARCH_CENTER_NAME] Centre of my college. I did various tasks such as the literature review, drafting of the research paper, documentation of high-level design, and handled the frontend of the mobile application. I gained not just technical knowledge, but also learned how to work in a team with different kind of people. I also created [PROJECT_NAME] - A webpage for women (Web Technologies) to help women express their feelings and inspire others through their accomplishments. I did the frontend of the application and designed the informational web pages.

My father comes from a very humble background and would travel for more than two hours each morning just so he could reach his college and learn. He funded his education through scholarships, and is my source of inspiration.

These are the online courses I took during the pandemic to augment my knowledge and skills. These included IT Fundamentals for Cybersecurity Specialization (Coursera-IBM), Architecting with Google Compute Engine Specialization (Coursera - Google Cloud), Machine Learning with Python (Freecodecamp), Complete Data Structures and Algorithms Course in Python (Udemy), and AWS Machine Learning Foundations (Udacity). This last course I got through the AWS Machine Learning Scholarship. I have also completed a course on Ethical Hacking in the first semester of my Bachelor's program.

I am a detail oriented-person who values time and sincerity. I am known for my presence of mind. Once, I heard a pot fall while I was doing an assignment in the middle of the night, and saw a burglar trying to climb the balcony opposite to my house. I quickly called the police and alerted my neighbors. The police arrived in time and arrested the burglar before he could do any damage. I find immense joy in playing badminton; it relaxes me. I love going on early morning treks and watching the sun rise. Having lost my grandparents at a young age, I make it a point to visit old age homes. There is a lot to learn from their experiences in life.

I want to do masters as it will help me gain an in-depth understanding of the subject. Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Natural Language Processing, Cloud computing, Data Analytics are the areas which interest me the most. I aspire to make scientific and technological breakthroughs and apply them to provide quality services to society. I wish to make existing systems more efficient and reliable. Being a person who believes in working hard and maximizing my capabilities in order to achieve a desired result makes me worthy of pursuing a masters degree. The M.S in Computer Science at [UNIVERSITY_NAME] furnishes advanced research facilities, exposure to industry, and excellent internship opportunities.
