Applying for Master of Science Degree in Computer Science Department of Computer Science Engineering, ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY
[APPLICANT NAME] [EMAIL] Date of Birth (mm/dd/yyyy): [DATE OF BIRTH]
The world is making giant leaps in technology at a breathtaking pace. A few years ago no one could have imagined the dependence on technology in our day-to-day life and the ease and comfort it has provided us with. I firmly believe that all the technological advances that we see around us today could be accomplished only due to computers. Computers are at the core of technology in any field, be it engineering, medicine, business, industry, etc. My strong belief in this fact has given rise to my great passion for computing. I would like to experience the thrill of discovery, rewards of research work, and the sheer joy of grasping intricate concepts, which a graduate study in Computer Science promises. An MS from ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY in Computer Science would put me at the forefront of this conquest.
I introduce myself as an undergraduate student specializing in Computer Science Engineering (CSE) at [UNDERGRADUATE INSTITUTION], [CITY], enjoying its reputation as one of the top 10 Engineering colleges in [CITY]. During my undergraduate studies, I benefited from the depth of the University's courses and the emphasis the university lays on experience-based learning. I had the opportunity to study a wide range of topics ranging from operating systems, Python, Java, C-language, mobile app development, machine learning, data structures, and Unix.
As my undergraduate coursework is a blend of computer science, my fields of interest range over a wide spectrum of areas. However, I am especially fascinated by Computer Engineering. I had an opportunity to learn interesting courses like computer networks, computer organization, and its architecture. These courses have given me a comprehensive exposure to the core areas of computer science along with a strong conceptual understanding of the same. Also, I have a good understanding of programming languages like C, C++, Data Structures, Java, packages like MS Office, and Operating systems like MS-DOS, Windows, and UNIX. Learning and understanding concepts thoroughly by reading various journals and papers and sharing my knowledge with others has been my modus operandi in the course of these three and a half years of undergraduate study. I have always been good at academics. My noteworthy semester grades stand testimony to that. With zeal and diligence, I completed Computer Science Engineering with a CGPA of 6.37/10.
Due to my growing interest in software programming skills, I chose the project titled "DETECTION OF VIOLENT INCIDENTS FROM VIDEO FOOTAGE OF CCTV CAMERAS" as a part of my final year thesis. The aim of this project is to automatically detect anomaly events and notify with a tag. The action recognition system implemented classifies the action of a person in the video with an accuracy of more than 90%. Also, the proposed algorithm is evaluated in terms of accuracy with a trained model. This project is developed by using machine learning in Python.
My academic pursuits have not, however, prevented me from participating with interest in various extracurricular activities. I am a regular participant in elocution competitions and debating society meetings. These activities have led to the development of a multifaceted personality and have equipped me with strong interpersonal skills. This helps me to lead, as well as follow the leader when working as a team. When I was a sophomore, I worked in the organizing team of MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENT, a club at our University. During this time I had an opportunity to mingle and lead a team that consisted of people from different parts of the country. This experience has exposed me to various hectic situations that are to be dealt with when working as a team under rigid deadlines.
While the undergraduate courses enabled me to grasp the fundamentals related to Computer Science Engineering, they do not present an opportunity to thoroughly understand the technologies that are current within the industry. So I'm strictly determined to study further and explore the new dimensions of Computer Science Engineering, especially in the areas of Databases, Embedded Systems, and Artificial Intelligence. A graduate degree in an American University is the best kind of further education for me at this point, because of the great amount of flexibility incorporated within the learning system, its infrastructure, the vivid interaction with the industry, and exposure to the latest technology.
I strongly feel that graduate study at ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY will be the most logical extension of my academic pursuits and a major step towards achieving my objectives. Also, this will aid me in building a career as a leader on my return to India. I look forward to an exciting period of the graduate program at your University, which will be a vital step in my career. Thank you for the opportunity to express myself.
