SOP Sample for MS in Computer Science in the USA - Fresh Graduate

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

As a Generation Z who has an abundance of information in the palm of my hands, I grew up listening and watching about the realm of technology and how the history of mankind is going to change forever for good. From being a kid to being an adult, seeing how innovation has a magnanimous potential to offer efficient solutions is flabbergasting. My inclination towards the domains of AI and ML proliferated because it is the ultimate future of technology, which is going to change the way the world works.

Since the start of my schooling days, I have always persevered into the academic field where I received a 10/10 GPA. During those times, I was in awe with the real-world inventions and how every electronic item came to existence. It is for this reason that I chose B.E in Electronics and Communication. I was taking part in multiple projects during this period like Water Quality Analyser, a wireless water quality measuring device, where people can measure the quality of water based on different factors like chemicals, micro-organisms, etc., using Raspberry Pi, Python and Cloud for storing real time data. Also a Type C Charger for Mobiles, a charger with basic electronic materials like capacitors, resistors and voltage regulators where the charger's ratings were high than the usual ones. With the help of the knowledge gained from these projects, I have secured 9.36 CGPA in my under graduation.

Apart from this, I was exposed to the facets of programming languages right from the beginning of my engineering days and these concepts nourished my intellect. The vehement exposure towards programming languages made me confident in my coding skills, which helped me participating in different Coding Hackathons and events like [PLATFORM_1], [PLATFORM_2], [PLATFORM_3] etc. On these notions, my interest in this domain increased further when I worked on various projects like Android Application for Digitalizing College Permissions, an android application where students could take permissions for different reasons without even meeting the teachers/lecturers in person. The project has been built using Android Studio. Getting to know about the new technologies in the market, I became inclined towards AI and ML and how real-world problems can be actually solved with the futuristic technology. I received a certification in Python from [ORGANIZATION_1] and Machine Learning A-Z from [ORGANIZATION_2]. With the knowledge gained from these courses, I had worked on a project called Titanic: Machine Learning from Disaster where machine learning is used to craft a model that predicts which passengers survived the unfortunate Titanic shipwreck.

I secured a silver medal from [ORGANIZATION_3] for solving the Rubik's cube in 10.47 seconds, which put me at a National Ranking of 332. Along with expanding my knowledge academically, I took part in various co-curricular activities, where I won a bronze medal in [UNIVERSITY_1] Inter College Badminton Tournament. Being a social butterfly who thrives on leadership, I have been very involved in extracurriculars and other social activities in my college. I organized many technical and cultural festivals and acted as Vice President for The Photography Club. I was an active member of [ORGANIZATION_4] team, where we worked closely with underprivileged citizens to help them sustain themselves economically by developing innovative entrepreneurship programs.

During my bachelor's degree, I worked as an intern at [ORGANIZATION_5] on the platform of Altera Quartus, where I simulated the given digital electronic circuits. I also further analysed the waveforms of these digital circuits for the better functioning of the gyroscope. To be more inclined towards the software side of engineering, I interned at [COMPANY_1] where I could attain important skills in Spring Framework and ReactJS. I also worked on a Sprint Planning portal. The main purpose of the project was to determine what can be potentially delivered in a sprint and then what work can be achieved. Further, I up scaled myself and started working as a Software Engineer in the company after my graduation. My tasks and responsibilities majorly included predominantly handling UI, by building upon [COMPANY_1]'s core internal frameworks and was primarily responsible for the inception and growth of UI potential in our team. I also enhanced, and streamlined job services in the back-end and Investigated, identified, and resolved complex application, system, and data issues.

Gaining supreme hands-on experience through my employment, I yearned for a source that would act as a catalyst to broaden my knowledge in the ever-trending AI and ML field and I believe that international exposure would definitely help me achieve my milestones. I started researching the best universities and countries to study further and upon my extensive analysis, I finalized my further studies with a master's degree in Computer Science from [UNIVERSITY_2].

[UNIVERSITY_2] is one of the topmost global universities and it has the best programs in every domain. The University also offers prolific graduate courses in Computer Science and Engineering with an inclination towards AI and ML and this would aid me profusely to achieve my goals. Through the courses in the esteemed university, I will be able to advance my career as a software engineer and grow my knowledge and personal skills since the university offers flexible learning options and different internship opportunities. I am particularly interested in joining the Data Mining and Machine Learning Lab (DMML) led by [PROFESSOR_1]. Also, I am in awe with [PROFESSOR_2]'s and [PROFESSOR_3]'s work on "Video-based Activity Recognition through Tight Integration of Visual Reasoning and Plan Recognition" and while my time in the university, I wish to work under them and gain meaningful insights in the field of machine learning.

After I complete the course, I intend to work as a software developer in multinational companies like [COMPANY_2] or [COMPANY_3] etc. I believe that I can become this trailblazing individual only by studying at [UNIVERSITY_2].
