Statement of Purpose

"Change is inevitable." Looking back, I feel that every decision I ever made helped me go a little further in understanding my real calling. As I wish to take up a demanding course such as CS, I find myself taking a trajectory into a field that would change my life forever. As I started writing this letter of purpose, I recalled every monumental incident that inspired and motivated me to take up a master's course in Computer Science (Big Data) from [UNIVERSITY_1]. Many people asked me if I am willing to push harder and master this new niche; I respond by saying that nothing is easy. I am here to make a difference, and since I found my calling, it's time for me to take up the challenge. Through this essay, I am self-assuring a future that will change the phase of my life forever.

Since high school, I was fascinated by semiconductors and their behaviors in-depth. Later, in my graduation, I learned basics of data science and big data like Python, databases, and Machine Learning, concepts of IoT. Learning these gave me refreshing and innovative ideas to make a difference in this enterprising world. I happened to engage with students from different disciplines—CS, Mech, and IT. My inquisitiveness helped me understand their areas too. This way, I spent my four years learning different modules from different disciplines.

On a mundane day, I happened to attend a workshop held by an IoT company in the computer science auditorium. Since I had no class, I decided to join my friends. That event changed my life forever. Using Arduino, the host demonstrated different IoT prototypes. With just wifi and a device, he taught us how to create a Smart Garage Door, Face Recognition Bot, Weather Reporting System, Plant Water Reporting System, Smart Parking System. I was flabbergasted until the end of the event. In the span of 6 hours, I learned something beyond classroom lectures and textbooks. That event inspired me so much that I started researching more about it. The fascination led to a newfound love for Data Science.

To give my newfound love a special distinction, I wanted to do a project on image recognition using machine learning concepts. I had a couple of other projects in my mind as well. Due to my team being a little behind on these technologies, we decided to work on a machine learning project called "Sentimental Analysis Using Twitter's API." Since this project required computing skills, I was the one who took care of the data entry, updating the statistical inferences, and other essential computing tasks. I was the team leader for this project where I assigned and delegated tasks to each individual. I conducted focus groups and weekly feedback sessions. We even used agile principles to deliver the project on time. The project received a good reputation among the faculty and peers alike. Since I didn't have the opportunity to do a project of my choice, I worked on different personal projects by myself. In this process, I have taken some free webinars on different computing technologies, coding, web analytics, and programming languages such as C, C++, R, etc. I did a couple of hobby projects that gave me insights into programming languages and other embedded system tools.

By the time I finished my graduation, I had the basic skills in computer science modules. With the pre-existing skills in computing, I felt that there is a high scope for me to bring the desired outcome out of my expertise. To suffice my professional vision, I decided to take up a job at [COMPANY_1] and [COMPANY_2] as a Technical Analyst. My job role involved payments-related development and support using Python, and retrieving the data using SQL and development of new tools for ease of payments, and I am helping in automating few processes. With this job, I gained core insights about business application software used by our clients and I did the diagnosis and technical resolutions that only experts could deal with. However, I find that the internal job posting is something that happens once in 18 months while I would toil through the process-oriented job description for more than a year. A deep level of introspection brought me to the conclusion that the real way to learn and grow is through higher education. Researching further and consulting with experts in the career industry, I realized the value of my time and decided to take up a master's program in my field of interest.

Currently, I have rich skills and a desire to gain expertise in the computer science stream as it will take me to the next logical destination. The acquired skills in computers will certainly place me in a good position where I can assure a qualitative outcome of my personal and professional life. Thus, I went ahead, gave my GRE and other ELP tests, consulted with career experts, and decided to pursue my higher studies.

I am also a cricket player. I really look forward to contributing not just my academic skill but my sporting skills to your sports club and represent the university in the best way possible. I was a keen participant in quiz competitions at my college. I organized food stalls at the campus. Not to mention, I also gave several poster presentations on the field of my interest. I took crucial roles during Technical Fest, a college annual event.
