Statement of Purpose
[NAME]
Introduced to computers at an early age, alongside the diverse games and applications like Paint, the innards of the computer fascinated me. Often, when my father was not home, I would open the CPU, disconnect everything while trying to understand how things worked and put them back before father returned home. Caught red-handed during one such endeavour, it turned into a boon as rather than scolding me, realizing my fascination my father helped me understand the functions of different components and software brought everything together to provide the means of doing a myriad of things. That is how my interest in software was sparked and I chose the Computer Science & Engineering stream as my undergraduate program.
My innate intelligence and diligent preparations helped secure admission to this program at one of the most respected institutions affiliated to the renowned [UNIVERSITY]. I am indebted to my highly qualified and experienced professors, for understanding my passion and helping in every manner possible for them, to help me acquire the holistic knowledge and skills that I was craving for. I have never limited my pursuits to the laid down curriculum. By following a plethora of online as well as offline resources I have been able to enhance my overall repertoire. My continual interactions with professors, seniors, peers, and industry professionals have helped me understand the importance of data in the digital world that we are living in and I have proactively worked in acquiring and enhancing my data management skills.
I have undertaken and completed 15 projects, most of them based on my own ideas. I am happy that five of these projects have been implemented across my institution. Observing the manual efforts in marking attendance and maintaining students' grades, I designed and developed an "Automatic Attendance System" using Bootstrap, Jscript, PHP, HTML, and MongoDB. Further, I have worked on designing a "Flood Mitigation System using Predictive Analysis" using Keras, NodeJS, IBM Watson, and IBM Cloud while leading the team in the IBM conducted hackathon. My capstone project was "Twitter Sentiment Analysis", based on the application of Deep Learning using RNN, Flask, and Python. Noticing the issues faced by agriculturists and sericulturists in maintaining the required level of humidity and temperatures, I have developed an automatic system named "Smart Sericulture and Agriculture with IOT" using IoT, Arduino, and Firebase that automates the irrigation and other relevant activities. I am in the process of patenting this product and would work on making it into a business venture.
My internship and industrial training have played a critical role in the enhancement of my application skills. My first internship was at the end of my 4th semester, I worked on Game Development and my roles were Producer and Programmer. During my industrial training, I have worked at [COMPANY], Bangalore, on streamlining their data needs while working as a Salesforce Developer. During this period, I acquired proficiency in Rest API, SOAP API, APEX, Lightning, Aura, SQL, SOSL, Virtual Force Pages, and ANT. Recognizing my performance and contributions to the organization after completing my training I was offered full time employment. My journey since then has been quite enriching. Handling projects and teams in my capacity as senior technical analyst has helped me further improve my knowledge and skills base.
My certifications as IBM Data Science Professional, Salesforce Certified Platform Developer-I, and AWS Solutions Architect have been a great help for me in completing all the projects on time and meeting all deliverables. Two of my research papers, "Handwriting Analysis using Graphology & Machine Learning" and "Voting System using Blockchain (Face Recognition)" have been published in the prestigious [JOURNAL] journal.
One of my delighted moments was to win the prestigious [UNIVERSITY]'s [PROGRAM] in 2018. I have the passion to build the entrepreneurial mindset needed to address global challenges and to build a better future in our college environment, and the UIF program was my greatest opportunity. Working as the team-lead during this fellowship, I have conducted multiple student-centric events at our campus. We conducted Design Thinking Workshops which had total 3200+ participants, Ted Talks - a series of talks by renowned tech professionals, Makers Space - platform for students to ideate and develop prototypes of their ideas, College radio - an idea that has proved to be a real boon during the pandemic situation. It was a truly stimulating and enriching experience to meet with fellow awardees during the Eastern Hemisphere Meetup in the UAE. The other achievement was to be shortlisted for the [PROGRAM] and implement various innovative ideas at our campus toward making education more meaningful for the student community.
I am currently working on my start-up, "[COMPANY]". To make technology accessible and affordable for the common man and to create employment opportunities in the rural parts of my country, are the two main objectives. Right now, we are working on making smart homes affordable and we are confident of scaling it up in due course of time.
All these years, I have worked on projects involving data and the humongous opportunities that exist in data management coupled with the proficiency that I have acquired make me determined about making my career in data management. This has made me make the decision to pursue a suitable graduate program in computer science. The fact that the USA has been the birthplace of most of the computing innovations thanks to its practical and research-oriented education system gave me the clarity about my learning destination. The next step was to compare and analyse the offerings of leading universities to select the right program and university combination. Visiting your web resources, the first thing to impress me greatly and that made me dive deep was the objective of your graduate program and the stated outcomes. Further, perusal of the faculty profiles and their range of current work in my passion areas – data management - made me yearn for the opportunity to learn from them. These factors combined with the opportunities for professional and personal development made me apply to the master's program in Computer Science at your globally acclaimed university.
Upon admission, my focus would be on absorbing the advanced concepts in my areas of interest such as Big Data, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Business Analytics among other emerging technologies. I am excited at the prospect of taking up independent projects or contributing to my professors' work, as these endeavours would give me great exposure to the latest in research methodologies, technologies, and tools & technologies being used at the global level. I am confident of achieving my learning objective and acquiring the essential global perspective during this program and would then look for internships as they would be vital in re-aligning with the then current corporate work culture. Subsequently, I would explore suitable career opportunities in my native country to work towards achieving my professional objectives – to develop products and services that facilitate business growth as also make the world a better place in every sense. I am also determined about scaling up my start-up after acquiring more comprehensive knowledge, skills, and commercial acumen through my academic and professional pursuits.
Excited at the prospect of commencing my learning journey at your global campuses in the Fall 2022 semester, I am committed to being a student truly worthy of your high standards. Privileged to be considered for admission at such a premier university, I express my sincere gratitude for the same in conclusion of this communication.
