Statement of Purpose

The advent of Artificial Intelligence technology revolutionized the long-held approach of the general populace regarding future scientific advancements. Science-fiction movies introduced me to a probable future where machines would be able to think and act independently with little or no human intervention. Although I took these theories with a pinch of salt initially, the rapid strides that science has made in realizing this supposed "fantasy" have forced me to reconsider my opinion of this futuristic technology. Growing up, I was always intrigued with radio communication technology. I was amazed at this concept which enabled the transfer of limitless data with no visual pathway or physical barriers. Aiming to decipher the mysteries of this fascinating technology, I opted for a Bachelor's degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering, which opened the doors of various communication and data transfer technologies. However, my introduction to a number of computer technologies, which were an integral part of the curriculum, stimulated a gradual interest towards a career in the field of computer science. Working with a reputable IT company, I began developing a keen interest in chatbots and automated platforms, which motivated me to delve deeper into the inner mechanisms of this technology. Thus, I have decided to pursue a Master's program in Computer Science, which could aid my pursuit of excellence in the field of Automation Technology.

Learning about advanced technologies had always generated a sense of thrill and excitement in my young mind. Radio communications were something that particularly appealed to me, as the notion of transferring information without any physical pathway was quite unique in those days. The widespread application capabilities held by wireless technology stimulated me to research further, which introduced me to advanced concepts like Frequency bands, wave modulations, etc. However, due to my limited technical knowledge, I was unable to comprehend the mechanism of these technologies. The curiosity to explore these concepts propelled me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering for my under graduation. The course curriculum welcomed me to subjects like Telecommunication Systems and Microcontrollers, which had their applications in the world of computers. I started developing a keen interest in computer technology, as the extensive impact that the advancements made on human evolution fascinated me. Additionally, the lab courses provided me with a simulated environment to experiment with various technologies. Initially, I found great interest in learning the basics of C programming and Microcontrollers, which I believe were the little sparks that ignited a silent attraction towards computers. However, the introduction to the world of Data structures during the fag end of my undergraduate course was the final nail on the coffin, which persuaded me to step into the captivating land of computer technology.

Apart from the theoretical and practical sessions, I eagerly looked forward to the semester wise projects which presented me with an opportunity to work on the latest technologies and come up with innovative solutions to solve real-world issues. I decided to employ my C-programming skills to develop a Random Password Generator that uses the parameters set by the user to generate a random password. As courses like Analog and digital electronics were in the curriculum, I was fascinated to use 555 Timer ICs, LEDs, transistors, sensors and logic gates in the mini circuits I was designing. To name a few mini projects: one was a Burglar or anti-theft alarm which worked on the basic objective of detecting Infrared rays. Since Microcontrollers were a unique concept and I was yearning to use its functionality, I decided to develop a project to garner a practical understanding of the technology. In almost every corporate sector, authentication of users having access to user data plays a vital role keeping data security in mind. In accordance to this, I had designed a very basic fingerprint based reader access controller. For this I had used a basic fingerprint scanner to record the fingerprint which is having an interface with a microcontroller-based circuit. As soon as a person enters, he/she is allowed to scan his/her finger on the scanner. On scanning, the data is sent to the microcontroller, based on this data the scanned copy is now verified for authentication with pre-stored images. If the user is verified, the microcontroller switches on a device (light) to indicate the user's verification.

Another real life issue I observed was the problems faced by drivers to find parking slots in multi-level car parks. Utilising principles of Data structure coding, the solution to this issue can be automated. Titled "Automatic Car Park Indicator System," the project involved using an infrared transmitter and receiver to alert the driver, via LED signage, regarding the available parking slots in a given parking lane. My final year thesis project was greatly appreciated as it presented an opportunity to assist the visually challenged community. Using my knowledge of Arduino Uno chip technology, I had developed an intelligent electronic eye, which was basically a camera mounted on a headgear that provided audio commands to visually impaired individuals. The in-built chip processes the images from the camera and generates the audio commands accordingly. We had also added a few novelties like solar modules to power the device, and obstacle detectors to enhance the functionality of the project. All these project experiences helped me to realize the importance of computer technology in various industries, and the future scope of advancement that is held by ML and AI for the growth of these industries. An opportunity to publish my research on "Innovative Prototype to Prevent Accidents using Eye-Blink Sensors & Accelerometer ADXL330" at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) was the perfect icing on the cake.

Having gained extensive curriculum-specific understanding of communication systems, I decided to seek internship opportunities to evolve my skill-sets at par with industrial demands. My first internship experience with [ORGANIZATION] which was a detailed study of communications systems between aircraft and ground personnel, landing mechanism, Aeronautical fixed telecommunication network, automated dependent surveillance (ADS). However, my second internship with [COMPANY] marked the beginning of my journey into the computer technology arena, where I received first-hand exposure to automation services being incorporated in areas ranging from biometric readers to advanced alarm systems. This was followed by another internship with [COMPANY], which is a notable MNC in the world in the field of Information Technology, helped me to dive deeper into concepts like Data Centres and Security Configurations.

After having graduated with a degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering, I intended to pursue my interest in the world of computer technology, while working as a Systems Engineer for [COMPANY]. The three years that followed at this organization played a key role in developing my technical acumen in the field of computer science. In addition to my assigned role, I had volunteered to take the mantle of a SPOC for setting up a backup system for an existing application at a remote site to assist the setup in times of power outages. I also work as a security SPOC, where my major responsibility is to safeguard applications from suspicious attacks or logins. I carry out tests on applications using Burp Suite Tool to identify any loop holes in the application. For code quality, SONAR platform is used, while security vulnerabilities are scanned by Fortify SCA analyser to ensure the necessary safety standards are met for final deployment. On a regular basis I work as a PL/SQL developer, which involves development of database functions/procedures for backend functionality. Data refresh and back-up are the ad-hoc responsibilities demanded by this role. Working on several projects involving advanced tools and technologies, I started developing a keen interest in chatbots and automated platforms. Determined to pursue this interest, I experimented with developing chatbots using software like Google-Dialogflow, which further motivated me to explore the fast-evolving world of automation technology. Throughout my work life till present, I have received appreciation/awards from my peers and seniors for notable work and dedication.

Thus, with an aim to decipher this intriguing technology and the various upcoming advancements in Computer technology, I have decided to pursue a Master's program in Computer Science and Technology from the esteemed [UNIVERSITY]. I have a strong reason to believe that the renowned technical expertise of the faculty and the zeal of the institution towards innovation and excellence can be the perfect game-changers to aid my pursuit of mastering this science. The vibrant campus environment and dynamic course structure, with subjects such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and the presence of eminent faculty members such as [PROFESSOR NAME] and [PROFESSOR NAME], whose interests greatly align with mine, are the major driving forces behind my desire to be a part of this university.
