Statement of Purpose

[NAME] Application to MS in Computer Science

# Introduction

Since childhood, my upbringing was between tech people, especially my few colleagues in the apartment in which I live. Their everyday group discussion on the topic of technology used to captivate me to get into the world of computers. Finally, during my secondary education, I decided to keep ICT as a bifocal subject and chose Information Technology as a career, with a crystal clear goal of becoming an IT professional.

# Academics

Further, in my junior college, I chose Information Technology as a major subject from the science background, since the course structure was intended to acquire knowledge in Web Development and IT Architecture Management. The program helped me to build a good understanding of front end development, but just introduced me with back end development. Following it, I completed my graduate studies in Information Technology with a 9.10 CGPA gaining in-depth knowledge in Software Development and Management. My overall academic performance was outstanding.

Still, I felt I am partially exposed to the process of software development. I initiated deep research with the help of search engine [PLATFORM] and video platform [PLATFORM] and got introduced to some online learning platforms. Soon, I enrolled on some courses in [PLATFORM] as the courses were less expensive and as well as rich in content than other platforms. I enrolled in three courses namely UI/UX Designing, Android Application Development and Full Stack Web Development.

As a package, graduate studies, extracurricular courses and the guidance of college Professor [NAME] guided me to develop a couple of websites and an E-commerce Android Application from scratch for the final year project of my graduation. The Android Application was described in three parts: 1) Front end development 2) Use of Java Language and App development platform named Android Studio 3) Linkage of application with the Firebase (A database powered by [COMPANY]). This project was verified and marked with an 'O' grade by the professor.

Along with academic extra-curricular activities I was a part of the "Computer Association" a college tech committee and also the Leader of the Social Service team (NSS), for which in the year 2020 I was awarded as the "Best Group Leader".

# Why MS in Computer Science?

While pursuing Bachelor's degree I have been exposed to management as well as the development phase of IT, and ultimately at the end of graduation gained interest in developing applications with the help of various languages. After gaining in-depth knowledge of the Computer Science program and its benefits towards my goal, I prefer to pursue a Master's in Computer Science program over Information Technology, as it will broaden my knowledge in the field of programming. To ensure entry to an Australian University, I took the IELTS exam and scored good bands in it. To achieve my goal of pursuing a Master's program in Computer Science I am writing this statement of purpose for your evaluation.

# Why Australia?

Being an Indian Student I was eligible for a Master's Program in my home country, since the course type is more inclined towards thesis-based, I decided to opt for abroad studies and choose the country which can offer me practical course work.

Further, I was eligible in multiple countries based on my academics. I consulted with many of my relatives and their friends to choose which country is more suitable for me considering various aspects such as climate, course structure, course fees, return on investment and living expenses. Unfortunately, I received two answers one was Australia and the other Canada, but I evicted Canada from the list as the courses provided by the Canadian Universities are thesis-based and hardly two to three universities offer a practical course whereas Australian Universities offer variation in the courses such as practical as well as thesis-based, thus Australia is the only country I will love to pursue the Master's Program.

# Why [UNIVERSITY]?

Shortlisting the universities was the toughest part for me in the whole process as I had to go through each university's course structure and then come to the result of whether that university can enhance my career. Fortunately, [UNIVERSITY] offers coursework that can intensify my programming skills and make me industry-ready and also it is ranked 48 in the world for Computer Science which partially assures me a good level of teaching. The most focusing point in the course attributes is strengthening critical thinking and problem solving which plays a significant role in the IT industry.

To sum up, being a Master in the field of CS is not the only motive of mine, while I believe in pursuing higher education from the desired country and returning back to my home country for the betterment of society. Helping my country to develop more technologically will be my utmost effort.
