STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

"The problem isn't finding data; it's figuring out what to do with it." The moment these words registered in my brain, I felt the necessity and the drive within me to work upon this. Every now and then, it was somehow brought to my notice that there is so much data being generated every millisecond that the entire idea is unfathomable. But then some incidents proved this idea as a reality. I was hooked when I realized how data was floating in my environment. It was the moment when I was purchasing a pair of shoes and that's when I was recommended to buy socks along with it. That got me thinking "How come this website knows what goes with shoes". That's how the journey of my fascination with data began. Noticing various recommender systems across every online platform made me aware that the new era is all about data. Data Science and analysis are intertwined with each other to deliver a quality product in every sector. Hence the desire to pursue this course; to sate the need of making use of data as much as possible. I opted for a master's degree in data science that falls under Computer Science program offered by your university to gain a thorough knowledge of all the prospects that fall under this course. It is a great opportunity for me to pursue my desire at your university as I believe that it can provide me with an extensive range of learning opportunities and skills that will help me make a successful profession in Data Science.

I got my undergraduate degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2020 from [UNIVERSITY], [CITY]. The 4 transformative years of my academic life taught me to tackle problems and navigate through challenges. I enjoyed studying subjects such as Data Structures and Algorithms. I worked on a project titled 'Shielding effectiveness of Rectangular mesh of AL6061 Metal matrix for Aerospace applications' in the final year of college. The venture aimed to provide a solution to overcome the effect caused due to lightning strikes on aerospace applications. My strategic planning and good teamwork helped in the effective completion of the project. My superiors praised me for the work I did. I participated in many activities organized by various clubs in the college. Finally, in the last year, I went for interviews and was designated as Application Development Associate in [COMPANY], India.

When I joined [COMPANY] in August 2020, I got trained in Bigdata that introduced me to new technologies like Hadoop and perform hands-on in utilizing it for real-time data processing. I also came across some algorithms that gave me insight into the data processing techniques. Later, I was assigned the project that dealt with telecommunication data which gave me a glimpse of how "big data" in reality is. That was when I realized the true potential of Data Science. Progressing through various assignments, I gained expertise in data routing tool Apache NiFi, SQL, Hive, and Unix. Also dealing with stakeholders helped me acquire corporate etiquettes and enhanced my managerial as well as communication skills. Working single-handedly brought out the best in me, pushed me to every extent. It contributed a great deal in developing skills like prioritizing tasks, strategic planning, and brainstorming innovative ideas that are efficient and timesaving. Working in a team of 25 taught me to work alongside people of great calibre, develop and maintain friendly relations with my colleagues, participate proactively in every activity, and enrich my leadership skills. Collaborating with other big data developers having years of experience fuelled the burning passion to dive deeper into data science and study it thoroughly.

Despite working on a lot of requirements, each one bringing a new challenge, they all gave me a one-sided view of Data. Even though I knew what happened with the data in later stages, I couldn't experience it first-hand as it was the job of another team. My zeal to travel with data right from the beginning to the end encouraged me to follow my passion for Data Science. With the right set of skills and knowledge, I believe I can put it to good use for the benefit of the community. To kick start my learning I enrolled myself in a certified course of Bigdata from [ONLINE_PLATFORM] this year. The experience is thrilling and seconding my motivation for advanced study. I want to have a 360-degree knowledge of Bigdata and everything that comes along with it like the data mining techniques, processing tools and methods, analysis, etc.

Presently, I look forward to building my career in Data Analytics that will challenge me intellectually, but also provide rewards and great opportunities in the long run. I believe that I am passionate, intellectually capable, and ready to set out on this exciting and challenging path. I hope to have a hand in the current research projects in this field by working on innovative projects and discovering the undiscovered in Data Science. I explicitly would like to work in the field of Data Analytics.
