STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Certain engaging journeys begin at a young age. So did mine! As a 10-year-old, a casual visit to a construction site was like stepping into a whole new world. The humongous machines used onsite captivated me, and they still do. The number of people working in the construction of just one structure made me wonder how a team of few people could manage the entire workforce till the completion of the project. When I grew up and explored the various academic possibilities, I decided to manage the planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating construction projects from scratch to the end. While my BTech degree provided the basic practical knowledge of the theoretical concepts of civil engineering, a Master's in Construction Management would equip me with advanced and extensive knowledge of the subject. The knowledge I will gain through my Master's program will act as a catalyst in my journey as a professional civil engineer. I have always believed that this profession can provide me with the power to change the face of the world and leave a mark of my own. Every infrastructure will hold a unique tale of its own and what motivates me is that one day I will be the author of one such tale.

My academic performance has always been excellent and I passed my 10th and 12th grades with high percentages, in recognition of which, I was awarded merit certificates, a medal and a memento. My childhood attraction for construction persisted even at this stage. I have always regarded engineers as creators in every field, and civil engineering, in particular, is a dynamic profession that fascinated me a lot. The ability to construct various structures ranging from a compact cell to a skyscraper is something that I found unusual. With this mindset, after class 12, I proceeded to pursue my Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from [UNIVERSITY_NAME].

I would like to elaborate on my academic project here since this is where I gained much knowledge and technical skills in the subject. I worked on a project titled 'Designing and Structural Analysis of a Shopping Complex.' I worked on the project using ETABS software. This software was not part of our curriculum, but I wanted to explore something new. Though it took a few months to complete the project, I was happy about my achievement. The two internships at [COMPANY_NAME] in [CITY] helped to sharpen my technical skills and refine my soft skills. The program gave me exposure to the site activities during the foundation work and other associated features. During college, my participation in co-curricular activities fetched me a Certificate of Appreciation for serving as Coordinator for the 'National Conference on Special Concrete' held in [UNIVERSITY_NAME]. Further, I was made the Student Member of the Indian Concrete Institute, [UNIVERSITY_NAME].

During the initial months of campus placements, renowned IT companies along with only two core civil engineering companies visited our college. I was disappointed to know that I had missed by a narrow margin being recruited by the civil engineering companies. In September 2019, I was shortlisted by [COMPANY_NAME] for the profile of Systems Engineer. While waiting for my final year project review, India was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic due to which I received my offer letter in late January 2021, an unexpected delay in the joining date by seven months. The uncertainty of my joining date led me to brainstorm multiple academically enriching ideas. This is exactly when [COMPANY_NAME] came into the picture. It is a multinational US-based online portal composed of a team of diverse experts committed to providing the most reliable and supportive math education in the market, and I was amongst the first of those 100 math experts selected worldwide.

I am a third-generation engineer in my family brought up by a single working mother who taught us the vital value of being dedicated and goal-oriented. I like to travel and explore the culture of new places. I even have a creative side wherein I try and experiment with an art form called quilling. I was a student member of a chapter in my college, in which we used to organize events and workshops related to civil engineering. This experience helped me become a better team player. As far as leadership qualities are concerned, I was elected as the PR head for a National Conference held in my college, where students and professors from all over India presented their research papers on 'Special Concrete'. Also, I got opportunities to give back to society by unofficially being a part of many social drives conducted by the NGO in which my mother was a board member.

Civil engineering in particular is a dynamic profession that intrigues me a lot. My short-term goal is to quickly adapt to the professional requirements and to learn the work fast. Achieving the short-term goal will be a stepping stone to the long-term goals in my career. My long-term goal is to construct structures that millions of people would use for years. I would also want to serve society by conserving and rebuilding monumental structures.

The presence of renowned and globally ranked universities imparting good education in Australia along with the high quality of life and diverse cultures encouraged me to search for universities in this country. [UNIVERSITY_NAME] is ranked amongst the top universities which offer this course. Apart from construction management being my dream, this course is also a perfect blend of technical and management knowledge. I am looking forward to a fruitful association with your esteemed university while assuring you of a positive contribution to the institution. I not only want to participate in cross-cultural events but would also like to be an assistant to the teaching faculty and play an active role in the education system.
