STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Curiosity and creativity have led me to a lot of beautiful experiences in my life. Since childhood, I have been fascinated by everything in nature, especially the vast sky of stars that I observe every night. Occasionally, I observed iridium flares, which made me wonder about the magnificence of human creations and how vast and unknown the universe was to the commoner. As our population lives longer, the demand for biomedical devices and procedures is expected to grow. Driven by access to by-the-minute news, the tech-savvy public is more aware of breakthroughs in medical technology and advancements than ever before. Because of this awareness, more and more people will continue to seek out biomedical solutions to their complex health concerns, each time expecting a newer, more convenient, and more advanced means of treatment. Biomedical engineering is rapidly growing with technology advancing and the demand for cutting-edge medical equipment and devices.

I have always been curious how particular attenuated viruses would mainly fight against viruses and diseases. Later, I learned about our immune system's beautiful organization and how this microscopic world inside a human protects us from various diseases. I began to fall for the world of biology but knew physics, chemistry, mathematics, and the other subjects taught in school were essentialities because, without one, the other cannot progress; every issue is linked together. Thus, I chose the branch of my study, Biomedical Engineering, in the Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering, [UNIVERSITY_NAME].

Nowadays, diseases that can be spread through human contact can spread worldwide in a couple of hours. Also, COVID-19 pandemic times have taught us that it is very much essential to have portable Point of Care devices available at every site to diagnose and give results in a short period. Technological developments like integrating electrochemical biosensors with Lab-On-Chip microfluidic devices and paper biosensors are viable paths to make this possible. These would also cut down reagents costs and be a cheap way to diagnose diseases in poor and middle-income countries with neither proper facilities nor skilled personnel. This could lead to the appropriate diagnosis of diseases like cancer, which can reduce the costs of treatment for it by a considerable amount rather than treating it after it progresses further.

These factors interested me a lot. As I began to search more, I even came across a paper-based microfluidic device that can perform ELISA tests, an automated microfluidic platform constructed to test and screen drug effects on tumor organoids, and about companies such as [COMPANY_NAME] creating devices to personalize healthcare and [PRODUCT_NAME], a lab-free rapid RT-PCR test for COVID-19 while global companies like [COMPANY_NAME] are also focusing on Precision Therapy and personalized healthcare using patient twinning. These amazed me and made me want to do some work in this field if possible, as I felt I wanted to be a part of something so big of a revolution in the healthcare sector. At the same time, I could also provide to society if I could help develop such devices.

Due to COVID, our campus closed, and we were forced to return to our homes. Thus, I was not able to get any hands-on experience in the labs in our department. Currently, I am in my final year. While staying at home, I tried reaching out to professors all over India for projects to work on fields I was interested in being a part of. I have done several internships, and currently, since May, I was guided by [PROFESSOR_NAME] from the School of Medical Science and Technology, [UNIVERSITY_NAME], in working on content for publishing in a scientific journal on Electrochemical Biosensor designs used for detecting SARS-CoV-2 virus. I wish to create and come up with innovative ideas for medical devices. Thus, recently I am also working under a professor at my institute on creating an insole design for gait analysis.

Now, I wish to start my own company in the future in my country specialized in medical devices maintenance, exporting and importing, and ensuring quality healthcare is being provided in all of the hospitals and that the healthcare workers are aware of the beautiful, incredible technologies that are available in the world right now for easy diagnosis and treatment of the patients.

The joy of discovery is certainly the liveliest that man's mind can ever feel, and happy is he who gets to know the reason for things. It happened that the tarmac for attaining my target is well-paved right from my schooling, and so am I here desiring for a Master's program in your university which has stressed on research studies on various nuances of Biomedical Engineering. By the strong embodiment that would be laid to me by this MS program in this university, I'm sure to attain the actual potentials that would help me pursue a successful future. I'm sure that my aptitude and drive will see me through the challenges and keep to your expectations. I look forward to satiating my evergreen forte and passions starting at your university.
