SOP Sample for MS in Artificial Intelligence in GB - Fresher Profile
Sample SOP for MS in Artificial Intelligence at Anglia Ruskin University, UK, tailored for electronics and communications freshers.
Statement of Purpose
Computers are one of the most fascinating devices that I came to know during my schooling period, which made me question their building and operation. Gradually I got more excited by the various advancements that were being made to almost every aspect of operations through the combination of electronics and computer science. It was hence natural that I developed a strong intrigue in the subject and intend to be at the forefront of developments in this field. I view graduate study as the next step towards this objective.
I completed four years of undergraduate study in the Electronics and Communications honors program at [UNIVERSITY_NAME] and obtained a Bachelor's degree which is a combination of both electronics and computer science subjects. I always like to base my works on solutions to real problems.
In my second year, I made a mobile detector which was showcased as one of the best mini projects from my year. The detector comes with bugs that are meant to detect RF transmission signals. The moment this bug detects the RF transmission signal from an activated cell phone, the LED light starts blinking and it makes a beep alarm. This alarm continues until the mobile phone is seen and switched off or until the RF transmission signal ceases. These types of mobile detectors can be used to avoid malpractices in exams.
Going forward, I started to work on projects which included both hardware and programming. I made an obstacle avoidance robot in my third year as my second mini project with navigation techniques like path planning, self-localization, and map interpreting. It is an Arduino-based robot that uses ultrasonic range finder sensors to avoid collisions. This can be altered as robot vacuum cleaners that make use of anti-collision and obstacle avoidance sensors.
Multiple industrial visits have added to my knowledge and skills. One of these was at the office of public service broadcaster [COMPANY_NAME] in [CITY], which taught me much about television broadcasting and signal processing. A visit to the telecom company [COMPANY_NAME] taught me about the core network architecture of the telecom industry, and how voice calling and internet function. At [ORGANIZATION_NAME], I studied the operation of international merchants and communication in the middle of the sea.
Other than my curriculum classes, I joined the LabVIEW club in my college which opened my mind to a lot more possibilities on system design and many more aspects. LabVIEW is a graphical programming environment engineers use to develop automated research, validation, and production test systems. It runs on a graphical programming language with predefined programming blocks which made it a lot easier for a programmer with facilities like debugging, automated multithreading, application user interface, hardware management, and interface for system design with various ready-to-use toolkits. As a result, I began digging deep into the subject and attempted to gain more knowledge through every means I could think of. I extensively read up on and tried to apply them in the real world. I have completed the international certification in the field of LabVIEW known as Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD). My team created a small game called Treasure Hunt for our department symposium and received high praise from various students of different colleges.
In my fourth year, second semester, I got a job opportunity from [COMPANY_NAME] for the position of Associate Software Engineer and got trained as a full stack developer and worked on various projects. Currently, I am working as Escalation Manager where I deal with platforms like Relativity and Azure for a client called [COMPANY_NAME]. Once I started my journey as a professional, I came to experience the importance of data and its security, which mandates having knowledge about cyber security and data analysis.
In my final year, I worked on a Landmine Detector prototype using LabVIEW for the detection of landmines and unexploded ordnance. We explored the feasibility of low-cost, lightweight components for the construction of a model. A laptop equipped with LabVIEW was used to simulate a communication link between a microcontroller and the ground station. My team of two members used Analytics and Machine Learning toolkit; a thermal camera was to be used for scanning the grounds. For this model project, my team secured the highest grade for the year even while I was working as a professional at [COMPANY_NAME], which was a challenging situation to handle both college and work simultaneously. I was credited by the project guide for working well even in adverse situations and completing it on time.
I am confident that the Master of Science program in Artificial Intelligence offered at [UNIVERSITY_NAME] will allow me to enhance my understanding of the field to a great extent. I strongly believe that the curriculum, professors, and peer group make the university a melting pot of innovation and will allow me to apply my knowledge base and interest in research to bring to fruition the areas that I am passionate about. I believe being at [UNIVERSITY_NAME] will allow me to soak in and contribute to the broad spectrum of applications that exist within the realm of artificial intelligence. I also believe that a one-year Master's degree program in Computer Science allows for a flexible approach and aids one's growth as a professional. I hope I will be able to contribute to ground-breaking research work in the areas of AI and systems at your university. I plan to fully utilize the flexibility at the university to do so.
My experiences have molded me into what I am today. I believe that the Master's degree will give shape to the professional I envision myself to become. I look at this application as a hope to pursue my ideas and skills in the company of people with whom I can contribute to new ideas, discuss theories, and make an impact in the long run.
