Statement of Purpose

Growing up in the financial capital of India, I have been exposed to a blend of great architectural styles from a young age - right from Gothic, Art Deco, Victorian, Indo-Saracenic & even Contemporary architectural styles. As a little child, I often asked my father why buildings like the [BUILDING_NAME] - a UNESCO world heritage, the [BUILDING_NAME], and the [BUILDING_NAME] were so different from each other. In hindsight, my interest in architecture took roots during these visits. My parents' interest in traveling around India too has played a crucial role in furthering my interest in architecture during my adolescent years. Such has been my interest in architecture that I went on to do an undergraduate degree in it and it is this same interest that today motivates me to apply to the M.Arch program of [UNIVERSITY_NAME]. I want to further dwell deeper into the field of architecture, go beyond the basics of designs and learn new technology and architecture in a global context. Post the Master's, I wish to get into academics and teach students the different facets of architecture.

From a young age, I was a creative child - be it drawing, painting, or DIYs. After completing school, it was time for me to select the course for my undergraduate degree. I started digging a little deeper into my interests and motivations and realized that my problem-solving skills, my creative nature, and my interest in the heritage buildings that dot India pointed to only one field - i.e. architecture. Having realized this, I started researching more about this field and realized that this constantly evolving and dynamic field is much more than designing buildings. In fact, architects contribute to improving the quality of life of people through various construction projects that they plan and design. It seemed to be the perfect profession for me as I wanted to have a career path that aligned with my values. I couldn't have thought of a better degree than architecture where I could work on both my creative and logical sides while also helping the community in my own small way.

I enrolled in a Bachelor in Architecture program at [COLLEGE_NAME] and thus began my journey into the world of architecture with a few butterflies in my stomach. However, the undergraduate program played a crucial role in making me realize that my decision to pursue this program was absolutely correct. I enjoyed every single aspect of the program - right from the classroom lectures to the projects and internships. I thoroughly enjoyed studying design subjects such as Architectural Representation and Design, Architectural Design, and Allied Design and Design Dissertation. I worked on documenting the architecture styles of cities like [CITY_NAME], [CITY_NAME], [CITY_NAME], [CITY_NAME], [CITY_NAME], and [CITY_NAME] and learned about the architecture prevalent at different times in these cities. To further my practical knowledge, I interned at [COMPANY_NAME] and got exposed to the life of an architect and absolutely loved it. Looking for more exposure, I attended a Summer School with the [PROGRAM_NAME] offered by [UNIVERSITY_NAME] and completed the course of planning and design of confined masonry buildings in earthquake-prone areas of India. I went on to participate in 'Don't Tear It Down' a workshop introducing the Earthquake Resistant Architecture in [STATE_NAME] and in the 'Earth Construction Training Program' conducted by [ORGANIZATION_NAME]. To test my knowledge, I participated in a few architectural competitions and stood second in the competition organized by the [ORGANIZATION_NAME] for designing a bus stop.

During my undergraduate years, I multitasked my academics with extracurricular activities and social work and worked as the HOD of Communications in '[EVENT_NAME]' organized by my college. I have also worked for an NGO ([ORGANIZATION_NAME]) where I taught English, Maths, Science, and Social Studies to students. For the NGO [ORGANIZATION_NAME] and [ORGANIZATION_NAME] '[CAMPAIGN_NAME]' campaign, I spent a week beautifying [LOCATION_NAME] and [LOCATION_NAME] Stations.

After completing my undergraduate program, I joined [COMPANY_NAME] and have been working here for the last 6 months. However, my dream to pursue a Master's in Architecture has always been at the back of my mind for the last six months and thus I apply to [UNIVERSITY_NAME]'s Master in Architecture program.

Studying for my Master's in United States of America has always been my dream. The highly ranked universities here, the cutting-edge and industry-oriented curriculum offered by the universities, the blend of theoretical and practical learnings, all make me wish to study in this country.

I find [UNIVERSITY_NAME]'s Master's program to be the perfect fit for me. I believe learning from this great institution would indeed be a great experience considering the fact that some of the finest faculty of global renown is part of the teaching community here. I also appreciate the excellent student-teacher ratio while its learning resources are aplenty. The core modules such as advanced architecture studios and architecture theory will be perfect to further augment my knowledge in the field of architecture. I also look forward to learning from my global peers who no doubt will teach me the finer details of architecture from their country. I am confident that a Master's from this university will pave the way for my successful academic career.
