Statement of Purpose

The society is going further down on the road to urbanisation and with each passing day technology and digitalisation is taking a new leap into the future. The work has become monotonous with people earning more money but nowhere to spend upon. Hence, there is a steep rise in international tourism. The Pandemic may have affected the Hospitality Industry for the time being, but will bring exponential growth into the market because it has changed people's perspective towards life and the importance of leisure and vacations in it.

I come from a small city, named [CITY], also called the city of temples which is situated in the eastern part of India. Having grown up independently from 6th grade as both my parents worked in different cities gave me a chance to take the decisions of my life on my own from very early on which made me responsible towards many things at a very young age. I had to cook my own meals, sometimes for the whole family, and even the guests. Preparing food and serving to the relatives when they used to visit my home was my first self-introduction to Hospitality and I used to get praises all the time and became a popular talk in my extended family gatherings. This is how I got leaned towards studying hospitality. The information regarding taking up hospitality as a career was quite vague at that time as it's not a popular choice of study here. However, my parents extended their full support to me for pursuing hotel management.

After completing my 12th grade, I appeared for the NCHMCT-JEE, which was a joint entrance exam for getting into the top hospitality schools in India and I secured an All-India Rank of [RANK]. I got into [INSTITUTE], which is one of the pioneering hospitality institutes in India.

What followed next was life changing. I learnt a new way of life and completely fell in love with the prospective career options. I started my training at [HOTEL] and learnt all round aspects of managing a hotel in a very practical way. I got very inclined towards the F&B department as it involved working under pressure, handling guests and garnering knowledge from all over the world. The rush that I got from serving the guests and managing the restaurant was something different. In the final year of my graduation, I was honoured to head the F&B team in our college's yearly food and trade fair. It was a great experience to be heading a team of young beverage enthusiasts and executing everything, starting from marketing, logistics and even production.

During the campus placements, I got placed in a Management training programme by a leading 5 star hotel in India. I was very excited for the program, but then the whole world was hit by the Corona-virus pandemic and the situation of the hospitality industry grew worse and eventually the job offer was revoked. I was quite disheartened at that moment but however it opened up new doors of opportunities for me to grow in my field because hospitality for me as a career is not only about working in hotels but changing the whole narrative about it. I want to change the perspective of people regarding taking up hospitality as a main-stream career option and making a good career out of it. I want to be an achiever in my field of food and beverage and inspire people to do something out of the box.

I have always been a fast learner as knowledge always fascinates me and I always strive to be a person who has the foremost insight in his field of work. Hence, I decided to pursue my Masters in International Hotel Management. After researching a bit, I concluded that which country other than UK can be better for my further hospitality studies. United Kingdom has such a rich history and diverse culture and is a leading player in the International hospitality business. Being an Indian hospitality graduate, I have been taught of the British standard/ethos of hospitality in my college and hence, it will help me in taking my knowledge further if I learn at that particular country in-person. After some careful consideration, I decided to apply for the Masters in International Hotel Management from [UNIVERSITY] as it has one of the oldest running hospitality schools and also been in the best rankings in hospitality studies consistently for many years by the leading magazines. The structure of the course is in line with my career goals and the school has a wide network of alumni which helps in networking with the industry as it is an important aspect of hospitality. Hence, I hope that I manage to secure a seat in your college and get a kickstart in my career as well as be a valuable alumnus to your university.
