Statement of Purpose

My interest in electronics was first piqued when I did a light dependent resistor based security alarm circuit during my high school days that won the best project award at an inter-school level. It was then that I decided to pursue a professional career in electronics and was thus led to my undergraduate program in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Throughout my undergraduate journey, owing to my ardent interest in Electronics, alongside maintaining a CGPA of 9 and above, I did certification courses from renowned organizations like [ONLINE_PLATFORM] and [UNIVERSITY_1] through [PROGRAM_NAME]. The courses were related to Deep Learning specialization and programming, data structures and algorithms.

In the course of my Engineering program, I volunteered as a resource person for numerous technical workshops conducted at and outside of my university, as giving back to the community is an attribute that comes to me naturally. With my contributions aplenty for the community, I was elected the Vice Chair of [STUDENT_ORGANIZATION_1] and the Lead of [STUDENT_ORGANIZATION_2]. In the initial years of my undergraduate studies I got involved in research activity in the field of multimodal biometrics and Artificial Intelligence. My learning through this research work was tremendous and few months down the line I successfully developed a multimodal biometrics authentication system using Convolutional Neural Network model. The CNN model developed was used as a feature extractor. It was a potential research work which got published in the [PUBLICATION_NAME] in the year 2021 and was also recognized as the best paper. I was fortunate enough to co-author this particular research work with the Principal of my University, [PROFESSOR_1] and [PROFESSOR_2], Prof., Dept. CSE. During this whole process of brainstorming and research, I was so much in awe of it all that I saw that I have found my calling in research.

Along with this research activity I simultaneously did many mini projects, which all won the best project award at the in-house project expo conducted by Department of Electronics and Communication. One of the mini projects included vibration guided automatic vision which was a mobile security module consisting of a microprocessor and a 180-degree rotating camera module in which state of the art face recognition algorithm and an efficient alert mechanism aided by IoT platform was integrated. This particular project was published as a technical literature in [JOURNAL_NAME] in the year 2019. The other mini project included the integration of embedded system, flex sensor and a posture detection algorithm which was an economically viable solution for posture correction and detection for mitigating the effect of spondylosis.

During the pandemic situation, armed with an internship at the [RESEARCH_INSTITUTE_1], [CITY_1] on the project [PROJECT_NAME_1], I got an opportunity to enhance my knowledge and also serve the country. [PROJECT_NAME_1] is an indigenously developed ventilator by [RESEARCH_INSTITUTE_1], [CITY_1]. My role was to deploy an efficient communication protocol for real time data logging from pressure sensor of the ventilator which had a candid effect in the proper functioning of the pneumatic system. It was through this project I realized my strengths in the field of Computer Communication Networks and IoT.

Seeing my ability in delivering the internship project, I was offered to work on my final year project under the guidance of [PROFESSOR_3], Principal Research Scientist, [RESEARCH_INSTITUTE_ABBR]. My final year project was on developing an efficient dynamic MAC layer on the IEEE 802.15.4e protocol using open source platform. I was responsible for developing the MAC stack layer for the aforementioned protocol in [SOFTWARE_PLATFORM]. This development using [SOFTWARE_PLATFORM] was the first of its kind. Pertaining to its application when rolled out to the community, it can be deployed in smart cities and industries with time critical and deterministic communication demands. This project is sustainable for a long period of time owing to its energy efficient modules.

In the year 2021, I successfully graduated as an Engineer with a meritorious First Class with Distinction, bagging the Best Outgoing Student award from my University. Recognizing the quality of work during my final year project, I was offered a full-time position as a research assistant at the [RESEARCH_INSTITUTE_1], [CITY_1] in the same project.
