STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

[NAME] MS Electrical and Computer Engineering with Specialization in Embedded Systems [UNIVERSITY] Preferred Intake: Fall 2022

Taking Physics, Chemistry, Math, and Biology in high school brought me a step closer to my dream of pursuing Electronics and Communication Engineering in under graduation. During the initial days of college, my other interests took a back seat. I was serious about my academics and learnt as much as possible. My favorite subjects were Engineering Mathematics, Embedded Systems, Computer Architecture, and Power Electronics. Keen to translate my knowledge, I turned my attention to complete projects both individually and in teams (please refer to details in my CV).

I also did a Robotics Internship at [COMPANY] where I learnt about how robotic arms function; flight and movement; how they perceive their environment; how they adjust their movements to avoid obstacles and navigate difficult terrains to accomplish complex tasks such as construction and disaster recovery.

I eagerly attended the PCB Design workshop, which was aimed at providing complete knowledge about it using a simulation tool to test electronics & electrical circuit in software environment. I also learnt about its fabrication, and PCB design software ([SOFTWARE]). Most importantly I learnt how to make a domestic PCB to enable me to make a project on my own. All these engagements have revealed to me that I am weak in coding, and for career progression, I need to bolster this skill. In addition, I have come to know that I possess leadership skills, am innovative, possess critical thinking, and last but not least that I am a fast learner.

I have taken initiatives to learn from sources beyond the classroom. I have completed [COURSE_PROVIDER] Electric Vehicles Part 1, [COURSE_PROVIDER] Web Development, Python 3.4.3 Training, and [COURSE_PROVIDER] Game Development. I have also garnered technical skills in C Programming (Intermediate), Python (Intermediate), Web Development (Intermediate), and mastered System Verilog, Python, and HTML. I took special efforts to learn more by watching YouTube videos. These carefully selected courses have expanded my knowledge and skills, laying a firm foundation for Master's.

Due to my technical skills and gregarious personality, I was selected to be the class coordinator in my 2nd year of engineering. I motivated the students to participate and volunteer in inter and intra college fests. I love to spend time in sports such as swimming, cricket and badminton. They help me to cope with stress and keep me fit and energetic. I also indulge in binge watching as it keeps my mind active and generates new ideas.

I am keen to pursue Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a specialization in Embedded Systems, as I wish to gain expertise in my domain. The program offers platforms to sharpen skills; keep abreast with advancements in my field (I can avail of the latest tools and technology); grant me opportunities to learn from researchers and other erudite people. A post-graduate degree is fast replacing an under graduate degree as the minimum qualification for employment. By earning a graduate school degree, I can join an elite portion of the population. Roughly 8% of Americans have a Master's degree. That's the same percentage that held a Bachelor's degree in the 1960s. I have got this far in my career and now I wish to leap frog into the 'other' category that will put me in the elite. Clients trust most learned people more, and I would be a treasured asset in the company that I would be working for. I will also be eligible for varied jobs in sectors such as public affairs, education administration, social services, etc.

Top Master's degree programs offer opportunities to make an impact on the relevant industry and the world through cutting edge research. [COMPANY], Television, [PRODUCT] and a multitude of applications/products are based on life changing technologies. They were all the result of university graduate research.

Last but not least, Master's will challenge me to grow both intellectually and personally. Research shows that learning has a physiological benefit to your health and happiness by stimulating reward centers in your brain. But perhaps the most convincing reason of all is the feeling of accomplishment a graduate degree provides. Of all the reasons to get a Master's degree, a sense of pride and personal satisfaction always get top priority. If my stars are aligned, I just might create the next life-saving drug.

During the Master's program I wish to advance my knowledge in coding; Embedded System Design; Project Management; Real-Time Systems; Digital Signal Processing; Mechatronics; Software for Embedded System; Advanced Control Systems; Hardware-Software Co-Design; Avionics Systems; Pervasive Computing; Fault-Tolerant System Design; and Networked Embedded Applications.

Since I have exacting demands that I hope will be fulfilled during the Master's course, I researched on the internet to find a college/university that would suit my needs. I want to study in the US as this country attracts students from across the globe. As they say, "there is no smoke without fire". The emphasis on focused learning that includes practical exposure to real-life situations is certainly beguiling.

The graduate course at [UNIVERSITY] will expose me to a wide spectrum of knowledge in my domain which will enable me to make significant contributions, both during Master's and beyond. With a focus on diversity and multicultural concerns, I would be able to garner concepts with a global mindset. Post Master's I intend to get a job as a hardware or software designer in a top-notch company and make my family proud.
