Statement of Purpose
Business is at the core of every field in today's world and is one of the best subjects one can get an education on. I used to think business was just a soft skill anyone could pick up on the way and even at times was skeptical about the role business plays in the world. I was into media. I wanted to be a filmmaker and a storyteller. I pursued Philosophy for my degree studies. To be honest, I thought the business-minded corporates and the companies were holding back the growth of the economy and creating economical disparities in communities. So I was not interested in business. But then I learned an important lesson - business was not just about money. It was about the interaction and exchanges humans make at different levels. It was not business that created economic disparities. The frameworks and structure provided from the Business and Management perspectives always created more opportunities and better economic conditions. Business means responsibility at a level. Management is executing that responsibility properly. It was not a skill you naturally get - but that you build by study, observation, and constant experiments.
I chose Philosophy for my degree studies as I was interested in thought patterns, logic, existential meaning and wanted to learn about various philosophical systems. My motive was to do strong research and contribute to society via teaching and writing. Art and Culture were my focus. From this perspective, I had to go deep into human societies, psychology, and modern life. This provided me with new insights and those led me to the field of business and organizations. I found that the stability of a society depended on its economic conditions more than anything. And those, in turn, depended on proper leadership, coordination, and management of resources. This called for systems that could foresee the future. Business and Management were, thus I realized, pivotal to society. I worked on my quantitative and analytical abilities to prepare myself to dive into the subject. I made the best use of online resources and books available on the same. My interest in business and management grew and I wanted to learn it academically.
This transition took place during the last years of my degree and the months after organically. I looked to every field and saw business everywhere - from corporates to families. No venture, no company, and no initiative can be built and run sustainably without proper business structure and management. I studied this mainly in the background of films and digital media. I wanted to know how big industries developed, how they invested in projects with projections into the future, how they marketed and scaled businesses. Another reason for this interest was my brother's business. He built an online business store selling gadgets, started and automated a wedding studio, invested in small businesses his friends ran and guided them to growth. His passion for business also influenced me. Though I started consulting him to know about business in the digital space and the media industry, my interest transformed into business across different fields.
After my degree studies, I tried to learn business online and took the time to look into the opportunities that lay before me. Choosing the right path that would help me face challenges, foster me in this deep interest and provide fulfillment in me; was my primary concern. Though I didn't join any company and gain work experience I used the best use of my time learning online and working as a freelancer. This gave me the flexibility and time to explore my interests and make informed choices about my future.
During my degree period, I learned methodology and research and published scientific papers. This gave me the skills of researching, curating, and scientifically presenting them from objective and subjective evaluative points. Also, the soft skills like public speaking and writing which I have pursued with passion from the higher secondary period was always an added advantage to my initiatives. I always keep up the creative enthusiasm that leads me to new opportunities and fuels me to engage in my initiatives with competence and make the best use of my talent.
I started reading books on businesses and startups, listening to figures like [BUSINESS_LEADER_1], [BUSINESS_LEADER_2], and other successful business leaders. I was intrigued by their vision, process, and philosophies. I dived into books like "Zero to One", "Connect the dots" and exposed myself to diverse approaches to building a business. [BUSINESS_LEADER_3] and [BUSINESS_LEADER_4] influenced me by their approach to business, which focused, first on the sustainability of the business and the impact it made on people. These readings gave me new perspective like, businesses were everywhere and proper management was the solution to many problems. One thing I realized was that there were so many details that make a business successful. I wanted to study business and management academically and equip myself with the knowledge and skills to lead teams and make important business decisions.
After having browsed through, this university aroused in me great interest and I wanted to be a part of your Management program. The industry-focused model of teaching and practical learning which enables one to solve real-world problems attracted me to your program. Being a member of this university would be an honor and also provide an opportunity for me to operate with the events at the university wholeheartedly.
I always preferred a university in the UK as my priority was to gain a quality formation on the subject and also get exposed to international learning. Moreover, through this course, I will have access to individuals who will serve as mentors on my professional journey, widen my horizons and my connections on a global scale. I believe that this course will be a great asset to my career and aspirations. I wish to bring my learning into action at first as a working professional and then as a businessman.
