SOP Sample for Electrical and Computer Engineering Master's in India
Sample SOP for Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering tailored for Electronics & Communication Engineering students in India.
I am [NAME], an undergraduate student in Electronics and Communications Engineering from [UNIVERSITY], and I have applied to the Master program in Electrical and Computer Engineering. In the following lines I attempt to give a brief portrayal of my interests, aptitude, education and extra-curricular activities.
The process of learning continues throughout one's life, says an old adage. As one goes on learning new things, one realizes that there are many more things which one needs to learn to quench one's thirst for knowledge. During the course of my undergraduate study I have learnt many things, but I have also realized that I need to learn more to advance frontiers in my field of interest. A master's study is the next step in my quest for knowledge and to bring out my forte to the fore.
Right from my school days, I have always shown a high degree of competence and interest in mathematics and physical science. In my 8th grade I secured the National Means cum Merit Scholarship examination (NMMS), which tests students' ability in aptitude and mathematical reasoning all over India, for which I have been awarded scholarship till my 12th grade. It was with this motivation that I took up the mathematics and physical sciences stream in my pre-university course. My excellent performance here gave me the confidence to take electronics and communication engineering. I was admitted to the undergraduate program in electronics and communication through a statewide entrance examination in mathematics and physical science.
In my undergraduate study I was deeply interested in subjects such as Semiconductor Electronics, Microcontroller, Digital Signal Processing, Digital Communication, Analog Electronics, Digital Circuits, VLSI and programming languages such as Verilog HDL, C++ programming, Python, C programming and Data Structure. I have furthered my knowledge in these subjects, especially Embedded Systems and VLSI, through extensive reading. I closely follow the latest research through journals and publications of transactions and proceedings by IEEE and other prominent professional societies. In fact, I feel that this extensive reading has been influential in shaping my interests and attitude.
During my undergraduate course I actively participated in many technical fests. With keen interest I attended a workshop on robotics conducted in the college where we were trained on the basics of robot building with hands-on experience, a workshop on PCB (Printed Circuit Board), MATLAB where we learnt digital signal processing through MATLAB programming, and a workshop on VHDL programming which gave hands-on experience designing different digital circuits through VHDL programming.
My area of interest is Embedded Systems, VLSI and Communication. I have also used VHDL extensively to strengthen my theoretical concepts. Statistical and adaptive techniques in VLSI designing have brought about many innovations in the fields of Systems on a Chip, circuit designing and many others. Such advanced techniques have enormously increased the speed and capacity of communication systems and decreased the computational complexity of the solutions to many problems faced in these fields. I am highly motivated to work for developing such statistical and adaptive techniques. As an undergraduate student I am not content with what I have learnt in this subject and am thirsty for acquiring more knowledge in terms of both theory and application.
I have also showcased my interest in embedded systems and communication by working on different projects during my academics such as: Smart Receptionist Using Raspberry Pi, a security system designed using Raspberry Pi 3 B+ model; Intelligent Ignition Seizing Using Burglary Detector, the main purpose of which is to prevent vehicle theft by detecting vehicle status in theft mode and by sending an SMS which is generated automatically; and a UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver and Transmitter) project implemented using Verilog HDL.
To keep pace with fast growing technology, I did my internship at [COMPANY] on optical fibers. There I had the opportunity to see how optical fiber cables are being used for communication. I worked as trainee engineer in software company [COMPANY] as trainee software engineer for 2 months where I got the opportunity to work on testing different software in the field of cyber security, telecom and API testing. Post completion of my training I was given a full time role where I have been involved in API testing and testing different embedded systems.
Apart from this I have also been an active participant in the college fest and involved in social work such as being a member of the Eco Club which works for conserving nature and giving awareness among people to save natural resources. All these activities have given me the confidence and inspiration to actively participate in the process of acquiring and sharing knowledge.
I look forward to joining the [UNIVERSITY]. Your university has a good sound research base and excellent faculty. The technological end in Electrical and Computer Engineering is very advanced and it is my keen interest to join this department where I would greatly benefit from this program. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to express my aspirations for the future.
