Sample Statement of Purpose for MSc Marketing applicants in the UK with early career experience in advertising and sales management.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Being a positive and extremely extrovert personality with a never-ending urge to learn and grow, I believe an investment in knowledge pays the best interest. As once a wise man said, "Nothing sticks in a person's head better than a story. Stories can express the most complicated ideas in the most digestible ways." Let me talk about me and my decision of taking up MSc Marketing at [UNIVERSITY_1].
# INTRODUCTION
I am [APPLICANT_NAME], daughter of Mr. [FATHER_NAME] and Mrs. [MOTHER_NAME]. I'm from the city of pearls known as [CITY_1], which is located in the heart of [STATE_1], India. I live in a nuclear family with my parents, elder brother and younger brother. Both my parents are in the field of business. My father is in real estate and my mother leads a boutique and beauty parlor of her own. My elder brother is Founder and Marketing Head, and my younger brother is in his second year of bachelor's degree in Electronics. The financial health of the family is good. The annual income of my father is around Rs. 10,00,000 and my mother's annual income is Rs. 80,000 approximately.
# ACADEMIC & EXPERIENCE JOURNEY
To begin with, I completed my 10th class with GPA 7.2 in the year 2015 from [SCHOOL_1], [CITY_1], [STATE_1] under the Board of Secondary Education. Further, I took Fashion Designing in intermediate (11th and 12th) and finished in the year 2017 with "B+" grade from [COLLEGE_1], [CITY_1]. I always wanted to take up a unique subject for my bachelor's of commerce. From 2017, I started pursuing B.Com Advertising, Promotions and Sales Management from [CITY_1]'s largest college, [COLLEGE_2], [CITY_1], [STATE_1].
Being always captivated about Advertising & Marketing, I organised numerous events in [COLLEGE_2] like [EVENT_1], [EVENT_2], Fashion shows, etc. Starting from July 2019 to July 2020, I worked as Associate President/Digital Head for [ORGANIZATION_1] where I developed my corporate skills and learned a lot of management & administrative work. My job was to mentor college divisions and teams, collaborate with new universities, maintain website content and social media platforms of the organization. I was also in charge of designing posters and social media posts. My degree CGPA is 7.61. To fulfill the criteria of [UNIVERSITY_1], I took the IELTS exam and scored overall 6 band – Listening: 6.5, Reading: 6.5, Writing: 5.5, Speaking: 6.0.
# MOTIVATION FOR THE COURSE – MARKETING
As most people get inspired by their parents, my motivation towards business comes from my parents. I have seen my father hustle day and night to excel in business, and my mother was bored being a housewife so she decided to start a boutique. Now she is successfully leading a boutique and beauty salon for the past 6 years.
To explain to you about my involuntary entanglement in the field of Marketing, allow me to take you on a journey to my [ORGANIZATION_1] days. While I was working, I noticed my organisation was intent on doing their bit towards the betterment of society with the objective of helping the underprivileged and the destitute in any and every way possible. 'Cause' was first in the voluntary work path, but in this Digital Era, [ORGANIZATION_1] was behind in the race. I realized that and started working towards the digitalisation of [ORGANIZATION_1] by improving social media and the YouTube account of [ORGANIZATION_ABBR]. I created a LinkedIn account, got [ORGANIZATION_ABBR] under professional limelight, and showcased the social work and community services we did. I worked on creating a [ORGANIZATION_1] app/website so that people can easily navigate to services we do and make donations hassle-free, and yet we can keep all the donation receipts and documents/pictures of projects done till date. Working with [ORGANIZATION_1] and making a complete change of digitalisation, I have realised that I'm much more inclined towards the marketing side, so that is where I have decided to pursue further in this.
# REASON FOR CHOOSING UNITED KINGDOM
United Kingdom is the most preferred study destination among students from all over the world. It provides a unique learning style and an educational experience that motivates students to be creative, innovative and think independently. Universities in UK provide high-quality qualifications that are valued and recognised globally. Pursuing a Marketing degree from a renowned UK education institute like [UNIVERSITY_1] will open up great employment opportunities for me all around the world.
Studying in UK not only provides an exceptional educational experience, but also will give me the opportunity to build a network and gain experience with leading firms worldwide. United Kingdom boasts major multinational companies as well as start-ups and NGOs, and UK cities like London, Scotland and Edinburgh offer the best opportunities to students with their high living standards.
When it comes to education, business schools in UK for international students have top-of-the-range facilities and offer an ideal marketing learning environment, which will further help me to improve my career prospects.
International students who have a UK Marketing degree can either choose to stay in UK or get employment overseas. Graduates who want to stay in UK can obtain work opportunities through the following options available like Skilled Temporary Graduate Visa, Post-study Work Visa UK, Employer Nomination Scheme, and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme.
As my career goals include working for a multinational corporation for gaining experience and setting up my own business in India, meeting new people with different cultures and backgrounds to broaden my network, there's nothing better than choosing a Marketing qualification in UK.
# WHY NOT INDIA AND ANY OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRY?
While looking for Marketing courses, I did a lot of research about universities nationally and internationally. There are numerous universities like IITs and NITs that put India on the map in terms of quality education. Due to the reservation system, it is very difficult to get admission. However, the education system in India lacks creativity. The approach is more theoretical rather than practical. The foreign countries like UK make education more interesting by implementing the knowledge practically. There is a limited prospect of professional courses, with only Medical, Engineering and CA leading the list. The students in India are forced to memorize each and everything and produce it on paper during exams. Passing exams and scoring good marks are the main purpose of those assessments. But UK believes in practical implementation of knowledge. There are plenty of reasons why UK educational system is better than Indian system, and there is no shame in adapting and exploring better opportunities in foreign lands.
The reason for not opting for any other developed country like USA, Germany & Canada, etc. is that the standard of living in United Kingdom is considered the best among the globe. Four of the capital cities: Perth, Edinburgh, Scotland, and London are all in the top 10 most liveable cities in the world, whilst no cities of America are on that list. Cost of living compared to USA is less in UK. For post-graduation in US, the maximum expense that a student bears is $75,000 per year approximately, but on the other hand in UK it costs up to 35,000 GBP per year approximately. There is no language barrier like in Germany. Students who can speak fluent English can easily adopt UK culture.
If a student wishes to stay back in the US to gain practical knowledge after graduating, he/she has the option to do so through OPT. It is a temporary employment permission allowing students the opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study for a 12-month period only. But graduates who have completed a Master's degree from UK may be eligible to apply for a two-year post-study work visa. UK Government legislation requires quality assurance agencies and codes of conduct to be in place so that international students in UK and their parents enjoy a level of service and financial protection that is unrivalled. Multicultural UK is a safe, friendly, sophisticated and harmonious society in which students can learn and travel in the country without any restriction and fear.
In America, a student cannot work more than 20 hours per week and can only work on-campus for a commercial firm that provides services to the college, such as a bookstore or cafeteria, whereas in UK a student visa holder is allowed to work up to 48 hours per fortnight during their study.
