STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

They say the path of your life is destined and I second this thought. I chanced upon my destiny in Marketing during the specialization year of undergraduate program and it was really unexpected. Having been introduced to subjects such as brand management, integrated marketing communication, strategic marketing, social media marketing, and media management during the specialization year of my undergraduate program, I have not only found a keen interest in these subjects but have also realized that I have an aptitude for marketing. Since my childhood, I have been a creative child with keenness about everything I came across, and when I studied the magnificent marketing campaigns of different brands, or for that matter, any business set up and the amount of ideation along with creative strategies that went into it, I was mesmerized. To be double sure about my interests taking a turn towards marketing I took up internships. The internship I did only reinforced this fact and I now wish to study more about marketing. Thus, my application to the MSc Marketing program of [UNIVERSITY].

I have been an academic achiever since a young age. In school, apart from academics, I have been an active participant in various school activities like dance, drama, carol singing, donation drives, dance, drama competitions at school, college, state, and national-level and also managed to win a number of them. I was a part of the skating club and have successfully represented my school winning several competitions. I was a part of NCC (National Cadet Corps) and hence was a part of activities like rifle shooting and parasailing.

When it was time to choose the subject of my undergraduate program, since I loved being creative from the beginning, I decided to study for a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication. However, the program was a journey of self-revelation. Even though I loved the mass communication subjects, I was drawn more towards the marketing subjects. Integrated Marketing Communication in fact became my favorite subject. The specialization year got me introduced to the fact that my career interests could lie in the field of marketing. The projects I took up entirely proved that I was a fit for this field.

I did a research-based QSR project where I analyzed 3 brands in the QSR (quick-service restaurant) sector, explaining their history, target audience demographics, USP, brand equity, brand value, reasons for success, reasons for failure, post-Covid changes, the mistake made by the brand, etc. My next practical project was "Brand revamping" in which I conducted brand analysis from a sector and gave suggestions for revamping it. It included giving a brand a name, designing a logo, mission, formulating policies strategies, communication plan, distribution, creating social media post-YouTube videos, print and broadcast ads. I chose a national brand [COMPANY_A] and international brand [COMPANY_B] and revamped it to two new brands, [BRAND_A] and [BRAND_B] respectively.

I was also part of a group AD PR portfolio. In this, my team took an international brand (nonexistent in India), launched it in India, created a website for the same along with explaining the USP, products, and services offered by the brand after determining the demographics target audience, segmentation. We also determined the wants and demands, created a company profile, product design, various creatives like blogs, YouTube and promotional videos, audio and video advertisements. In this project, I was in charge of research, ideation, promotional strategies, video editing, logo designing, and designing social media posts for Instagram, color pallet for the website, and voiceover, and absolutely enjoyed my work.

By this time, I had become convinced that the field of marketing was where my interest lay, and thus I would study a Masters in Marketing before embarking on my marketing career. With this in mind, I interned with [COMPANY_C] as a social media marketing intern and with [COMPANY_D]. Both these internships helped me learn more about marketing concepts. Currently I am working with [COMPANY_E] as a Marketing trainee. These employment opportunities made me realize that what I knew about marketing was just the tip of the iceberg and I needed to further advance my knowledge in the field.

My growing interest in the field of marketing encouraged me to pursue certifications such as Communication Strategies for A Virtual Age from [UNIVERSITY_A] and Digital Marketing Basics from [INSTITUTION]. I have been active in my extracurricular pursuits too and have been part of the photography team, event management, yoga club, and host at the College fest. I have been working with a youth organization called [ORGANIZATION_A], a nonprofit organization working towards normalizing honest sex education. I am a part of an NGO, [ORGANIZATION_B] where we work towards environment conservation and making donations to the needy. I also have more than 9.5 million viewers on [PLATFORM] with [COMMUNITY]. I have been also appreciated by [COMPANY_F] for my photography on a social media platform (Instagram). I have attended MUN as IPC delegate, World Parliament 2018, 2019, and National Media Conference 2019. I took up several online courses articulating my interests adjoining with skills I wanted to learn during the pandemic like Presentation Skills: Effective Presentation Delivery - [UNIVERSITY_B]; Camera, Exposure & Photography - [UNIVERSITY_C], and Strategic Career Self-Management - [UNIVERSITY_D].

Now that I am about to complete my undergraduate studies, I am ready to start my journey in marketing through a Masters in Marketing. I believe to sustain and succeed in the field of marketing I will need an in-depth knowledge of marketing as a field and as an area of study. The UK is one of the best countries for higher education as it has a plethora of high-ranked universities that offer the finest blend of education. Not only will I be able to build my theoretical and practical knowledge in marketing during the program, but I will also be able to develop my professional skills during the post-study visa. Another exciting feature of studying in the UK is the one-year programs that will help me start my career early without compromising on the quality of knowledge or exposure.

After my masters I aim to work in different sectors like FMCGs, QSRs, and fashion-oriented brands but I would like to call media, OTT, and entertainment-oriented firms as my ultimate destination to work. I believe I will be an appropriate fit for working in the marketing department of an entertainment media firm considering the knowledge I have gained from my undergraduate studies.

[UNIVERSITY]'s Strategic Marketing masters program excites me like no other. My areas of interest are brand management, social media and digital marketing, ideation and strategies, market research, marketing communication and I am confident that this program - through its core modules and electives - will help me build my expertise in my areas of interest. The dissertation or the Group Business project at your university will be a great opportunity to build on my practical exposure and test my classroom learning. I am confident that studying under the guidance of renowned faculty and amidst global peers will aid my overall development. I look forward to a fruitful association with your school both during and after the program.
