Statement of Purpose

In 2010, I saw a video of [PERSON] "Innovating to Zero," suggesting a technology that would be safe, reliable, and have zero carbon emissions. It made me curious about how we can reduce the effects on the environment, leading me to mechanical engineering, a field that consisted of everything from energy harnessing to building efficient machines and technologies; this field is the base to every technology available. Therefore, my undergrad time also explored the ways of making environment-friendly technologies as a Mechanical Engineer. I feel it is my responsibility to work on such issues and help bring about a greener, better world, which would reduce pollution and reduce the global carbon footprint. Hence, I felt the need to extend my knowledge by pursuing a master's in mechanical engineering. I envisage a better world designed to help us conserve nature with the help of available technological advancements.

The result of this inducement is my decision to pursue Mechanical Engineering from the [UNIVERSITY], where I grasped the knowledge put forth by my curriculum. During my semesters, I learned a variety of subjects like Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Heat Transfer which helped me foster my analytical and logical skills, a result of which I could solve problems efficiently. Reckoning on this variety of subjects, I was keen on increasing the boundaries of the know-how of this field. My professors ushered me in learning software such as Creo Parametric, ANSYS, and Solidworks, which led to my skill development due to dedicated practice. Curricular projects provided a fitting platform to apply my conceptual understanding in a practical setting. The first project I worked on was the Discharge Measurement Device, where discharge through a pipe was calculated computationally and displayed on the monitor. To further augment my knowledge, I attended a workshop on "Robotics with Raspberry Pi3 using Python," which taught me interdisciplinary know-how. These exciting projects helped me nourish my zeal.

I further worked as an Intern at [COMPANY] in December 2018 for almost a month. I got hands-on experience in assembling various components like hydraulic jacks, learning calibration techniques, and even working on analyzing the pressures of hydraulic jacks using Ansys. This experience taught me the application of my theoretical knowledge, be it in the form of analysis or grasping various techniques used in the industry, improving my communication in a professional aspect.

Apart from studies, I was a member of [ORGANIZATION], a committee that would organize various events at my institute, which resulted in me being able to keep up with the latest trends in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. My final year project titled "Design, Simulation, and Construction of Zero Energy Cooling Chamber" was done in a team of 4 members. The project aims to store fruits and vegetables after harvest, which is underlying evaporative cooling. Leading my team, we iterated our design. With sheer efforts in creating an optimized design, we got an opportunity to present our project at the [CONFERENCE] by [COMPANY] held in September 2020. The project's outcome was to put forth a system that depends on elements of the earth itself, such as water and air and is not like the conventional cold storage system that causes damage to the environment. These traditional systems aren't feasible for the poor farmers. Hence, we filed a patent for this novel design, and thus, this was a small attempt towards reducing the global carbon footprint.

Further, I was recruited by [COMPANY] under the [PROJECT] as a Graduate Trainee Engineer in February 2021 for eight months. Here, I was appointed to work under the Rolling Stock Department, where I led the maintenance team composed of work related to traction motors, gearbox, and the overall maintenance of the rolling stock. All this motivated me to upgrade my skills in this domain and also helped me build a strong foundation for my Masters. However, I could only reach a limited aspect through my work and the available knowledge, be it my major project or the work I analyzed during my work experience. Therefore, I realized the need for a resource to widen my scope, which would help me strengthen my know-how of the field. Thus, I decided to pursue a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the [UNIVERSITY].

Post MS, my short-term goal is to acquire modeling and simulation techniques skills by strengthening my basics in subjects like heat transfer and fluids. Furthermore, as a long-term goal, I would like to establish a start-up with the idea of my undergrad project, which has a patent. I would also be able to employ the skills gained through my masters to contribute as a beneficiary to the poor farmers, reduce food wastage, and assist me in achieving my vision of conserving nature.

I aspire to pursue the MS in Mechanical at [UNIVERSITY] because of exciting subjects like Convection Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamics offered at [UNIVERSITY], which will help me strengthen my foundation.
