STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

[APPLICANT NAME]

As a citizen of the world's largest democratic nation, India, one must be aware of one's rights and responsibilities. While studying the civic lessons that were taught early in school, I became fascinated with how the Indian democracy works and the rights and responsibilities of its citizens. As India became more open to globalization and its adoption to developing technology, I realized how crucial was the impact to have laws that builds policy and regulates the operation of a developing nation. With this in mind, I enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws program at [UNIVERSITY NAME], for my undergraduate studies in the field of law.

I do realize that growing up every step I have taken is what has culminated and enabled me to being everything I am today. I have always been on a quest for knowledge, and with this thought in mind, I have made choices starting from graduating in multi-disciplinary courses that would provide me with holistic knowledge of each field. I have been a student with a background in commerce during my undergraduate studies and after that graduated with a bachelor's in management with a specialization in finance. It was there that I had learned taxation, logistics, supply chain, company laws, to the applicability of insurance requirements for a company, amongst others.

After completing my bachelor's in law, I have always known I wanted to specialize but wanted to do so after some years of working to have some experience in the field of law. Since I studied multi-disciplinary courses through my college years, I gained the experience for practical application during work, whether it be for queries that were brought to the legal team regarding taxation matters or operational requirements about procedures for company mergers in my role as legal advisor to the company in its day-to-day transactions.

I got my direction defined during one of the first panel interviews in my life when a general counsel of the Asia-Pacific region told me how being a specialist in a subject is important as one can master their skill that specific field. While this was food for thought for me when I was starting out, it propelled me to decide to do my master's. During my time as a paralegal and an intern, I have gained experience in carrying out due-diligence of companies for private equity and debenture purchases, along with learnings in the [ORGANIZATION NAME] that provided me experience on how industrial, trade, and employee grievances and disputes are handled and resolved. I have also been a judicial trainee with a Hon'ble Justice of a High Court in India, each providing valuable experiences that formed my analytical capabilities as a lawyer.

After graduating from [UNIVERSITY NAME], during my work years at [COMPANY NAME], I worked as a core member of the Legal team. It was here that I applied my learnings by advising the company in various aspects like technology licensing, evaluating open source compliances in insights, data and artificial intelligence lead technology, provided transactional advisory, and management of the company's intellectual property portfolio. Through my nearly three years of work experience, I have been fortunate to be introduced to technology and data protection which are both essential and evolving streams of law. I also learned and was handed over the responsibilities of creating training programs for the company and coordinated with global stakeholders with our company's presence of over forty-five plus countries on various transactions. The responsibility, the authority, and trust bestowed upon me by my organization gave me the sense of confidence that I could do so much more with the skills I have if channeled in the right direction. It could help me enter unfamiliar terrain and contribute more to the developing technology.

I wanted to do my LLM especially a specialization in IT, Media and Communication area of law as my specialization as the program with the various modules offered at [UNIVERSITY NAME] will aid my knowledge and skills. It will develop my analytical skills, give me a wider world view of the global markets, and fulfill the career goals that I have envisioned for myself.

Your University, with noted alumni from different knowledge backgrounds and cultures, leaves behind a legacy that will inspire me to do my very best every day. The LLM program will help me be further well-versed with various aspects of technology and intellectual property laws and be more open to the newer school of thought in the field. The program offers various modules, and its learnings would intrigue my thought with some extremely best-in-class faculty capable of mentoring and further propelling my professional journey. I would be able to give back to the field of tech and the legal community. I also think my co-learners will also benefit and tap into the well of learnings over the years and from my on-field experience.

Technology, as we know, is transitioning seamlessly over the years and is advancing to make various inventions like smart homes, the automated driven car to make human life more convenient and connected and now with the introduction of the next big thing of augmented reality through the metaverse; these were considered as impossible only as recent as the nineties. We usually see an innovation that comes into place, and after it, the regulatory guidelines for it would follow. However, it is essential to have a robust policy framework and laws that keep up with the pace of such ever-evolving technologies to safeguard and ensure ethical practices are followed by organizations which introduce such technology. I want to be amongst the lawyers, equipped with the ability to create the policy.

I humbly seek you to consider my application to your prestigious University to contribute further to work in technology law.

Sincerely,
