It is because of this engineers are able to transform the physical world around innovatively to achieve recognized needs. I have seen this happen time and again in India when complex tunnels and bridges are built on roads and across valleys. My admiration for these engineering feats metamorphosed into a strong desire to contribute to the country's expansion.
Today, one assesses technical ability more by a body of knowledge than the ability to create. Civil engineers of tomorrow would be able to meld their technical skills toward innovation; they will develop significantly diverse frameworks to develop intuition about structural systems; and I predict that they will make judgments regarding engineering problems on a noticeably altered input stream. So, today, when students of engineering are educated, they must be empowered to bridge this gap by focusing on discovery, validation, exploration, and conceptual design rather than the lesser tasks that are now important. Even for technical topics that are prerequisite, pedagogy must be developed for deep competence in foundational ideas. Similarly, a well-balanced concrete mix design creates the foundation of a sound infrastructure.
I belong to well-educated family where curiosity is encouraged. Inspired by the works of [NAME], the genius behind changing the face of public transport by building the [PROJECT_NAME] and the [PROJECT_NAME], and [NAME], an eminent Indian civil engineer who designed the first high-rise building in India, I opted for Bachelor's in Civil Engineering for under graduation. I believe in constant learning of innovative skills and striving to implement it in practical work. Apart from learning a lot from classroom teaching, I absorbed information on global concrete and steel journals keeping abreast with the latest trends in civil engineering.
Using Mechanical Design software, my project was on mix design with soft computing techniques. Concrete mix design comprises a process of preparation where a mix of ingredients creates the crucial strength and durability to build a concrete structure. It is important to note that every ingredient in the mix possess different properties, and hence, it is not an easy task to create a flawless concrete mix. It is vital that all the ingredients are tested to determine their physical properties and assess if the bearing capacity is suitable for the project location. I tested the water, fine aggregate (sand), coarse aggregate, cement, chemicals, reinforcement, and the soil. I used the values of the physical properties after testing for all concrete mix design considerations. I had learnt (through my lectures and textbooks) that this would ensure that the structure will be sound and prevent damage due to an incorrect mix. I also found that it is important that the ingredients might vary from one project location to another. My work led to a paper 'Mix design with soft computing techniques' that I presented in college.
My first job after I completed under graduation (with 1st Class distinction), was with [COMPANY_NAME]. It is Consultancy Company that deals in residential projects from small to very large ones. Since that first job, I have gained professional experience in Mumbai, India; and in Manama, Bahrain. Throughout my career, I have always looked up and learnt from more experienced professionals. I worked in the Middle East to augment my knowledge, and the experience proved to be crucial to gain work experience in a diverse culture. I have been appreciated for my work, as it depends on Micro level planning and detail research. I showed my expertise when I was involved in the [ORGANIZATION_NAME] building where I used composite structure technology to deliver drawings within the stringent deadline.
After working more than 8 years in this field (five and a half years have been in Mumbai, India, and two and a half years in Manama, Bahrain), I now wish to pursue MS in Civil Engineering.
