Statement of Purpose

I am highly motivated to study in the UK in order to broaden my outlook and strengthen my professional abilities. As an aspiring architect, I am enthusiastic and eager to know different design styles and techniques. By collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds, I will get exposure to a wide range of ideas and this will be extremely valuable for my future. I liked tinkering with objects, their form and design. I always enjoyed analyzing and understanding the planning, interiors, starting from human stories and experience about the space. I found 'Architecture' is the only way that I can satisfy my quest for knowledge, experience and contribute. Each country has something unique to offer in the architectural field. And the UK, specifically, has achieved a lot in Architecture. It is at the forefront of modernist and sustainable design. Studying in this university is ideal for gaining inspiration and acquiring sound training.

Five years of the undergraduate programme gave me a deep comprehension of Architecture. I earned my bachelor degree from [UNIVERSITY_NAME] at [UNIVERSITY_NAME], Maharashtra, India. The program introduced me to a multitude of topics ranging from the very basics of design, Building Technology and Materials to more advanced courses such as Architectural Design, Working Drawing, History and Conservation, Theory of Structures, etc. These subjects have enriched my knowledge to an extent that I feel eager to explore them further. Among which, Architectural Design was the subject which completely captivated my interest. The pleasure of learning was augmented by the fact that I received continuous support and special encouragement from my professors for my interest in creating different space experiences, learning and exploring different parameters in design and software.

In the span of 5 years of my graduation, I have worked as student coordinator for inter-college competitions. I had also been in charge for carrying out detailed documentation of historical and heritage buildings, temples in local areas of the historical city of [CITY]. It is submitted as documentation to the heritage cell so that present resource mapping shall remain with [MUNICIPAL_CORPORATION]. In my free time, I have always participated in various seminars involving architecture and design, and I also attended different courses and workshops to attain certification in various software applications. I have contributed to a lot of social activities with being part of [ORGANIZATION_NAME], tree plantation activities, wall art designing for primary school in [CITY] named after the title "Back to School", and being a part of street play group referred to as "[GROUP_NAME]". Also acted in short films which are uploaded on our YouTube channel, of which one of the short films is based on Architecture. I was very active in group as well as individual participation in activities such as inter-college fashion shows and YouTube acts and dramas. Hence, overall experience of managing people allowed me to develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills.

As a part of my academic curriculum, I had to undergo practical training at [COMPANY_NAME], [CITY], which gave me a valuable experience on the practical side of architecture on real grounds and moreover interior design. Apart from education, travelling and exploring new destinations has always been my interest. I have observed the unique architectural languages which these diverse places teach us. This made me interested in learning the impact of a space we design on its context, environment, climate, landscapes, territory, interior and human experience and notion of the space and all other significant features. In the college, the course focused on theoretical knowledge rather than practical aspects. Therefore, to gain practical experience, I have been working with various people on various government and individual projects.

I have also been working for [COMPANY_NAME] as an Architect Intern for the Himachal Pradesh Urban Road and Landscape Improvement project. I have worked for Urban Design Interventions in [CITY] town of Himachal Pradesh as a part of the project. In this company, I have significantly increased my knowledge of architecture and urban design. As an Architect Intern, I also learned a little bit of the project management side of architecture when working with [COMPANY_NAME] on [PROJECT_NAME] project at [LOCATION]. As a Designer, I have worked on several projects which made me go and grow through the process. For example, I worked with clients who wanted to renovate temple design, and I consulted with clients and my supervisors regarding various design options that could best meet their needs. One such case involved the design of a local fish and meat market; other, more prominent cases, included my participation in the design of the landscapes and streets in the most famous and renowned temple of India, [TEMPLE_NAME]. Working on this project in [PROJECT_NAME] was a huge opportunity to me where I could contribute to my nation's historical avenue. Currently, I am working on the planning of the apartment in metro city along with interior designing for other commercial and residential projects.

Through all the work on these projects, I have gained practical experience and abilities such as ability to supervise, carry out plans and oversee the actual construction process, which gained tremendous understanding of design. For any successful design, it requires both good ideas and practicality. My work thus far has been rewarding and inspiring, yet it has also allowed me to reflect upon my shortcomings that I need to get additional training. Consequently, I am highly inspired to enter this master's program and study diligently. My intention and ideas towards creativity and design tend towards the computation aspect in architecture. When I think of 10 to 15 years from now, I imagine the Architecture world being well versed with software and technological usage for digital design along with sustainability, better environmental aspects and techniques.

Now that I have a firm understanding of theoretical and practical knowledge of architecture and design, I think I am prepared to begin the next step of my professional development, which is pursuing a master's degree in Architecture. I believe it is important now to educate myself in a stimulating atmosphere full of diverse ideas and viewpoints. Your program of master's in architecture is ideal for meeting my educational goals. The diverse and international student body, modern facilities and esteemed professors can provide me ideal education that will prepare me for life challenges.

After graduation, I hope to stay in the UK and find a suitable job which will help integrate me into the design environment. This opportunity will give me a more in-depth understanding of local customs, habits, design characteristics, and architectural styles, which in turn will prepare me for a lifetime of success in the field of architecture.
